Just finished (finally) the biography of the great NT scholar, Adolph Schlatter, one of the best kept secrets of German evangelicalism (died 1936). What a giant! And what a pity he is so little known among us.

The sayings of Jesus on the cross began with "My God, my God . . ." and ended with "It is done." Psalm 22 begins with "My God, my God . . ." and ends with "He did it."

Over the last 3 days, I took a break from work and watched "Amadeus" in the Director's Cut version. I pick up something new each time I watch this film. I know the main plot line was fictionalized, but the music!

"What did it say on the banners?" O. asks.
A. replies, "UNITED STATES OF IRAN."
O. says, "You know, Mr A., I am really happy you called, because believe it or not, last night I had a similar dream. I could see all of Tehran, and it was more beautiful than ever, and on each house flew...

Friday night Helen and I were at Kisho's and we engaged the couple next to us. Found out that they (she Jewish) were quite interested in my explaining Purim to them. We explained our faith realistically, even mentioning Lynda's death, at which her eyes filled with tears. She goes on to tell us that she was one of the producers of Soul-Surfer, the film about the Christian gal who lost her arm yet returned to surfing. They now want a copy of my Awake O Harp, and "want to come to your church." L...

I have not seen "John Carter" the movie. But the author who inspired the movie is Edgar Rice Burroughs - of Tarzan fame. By the way, the character in Tarzan is John Clayton, another JC. Listen to this summary of the religion of the novels. "When it comes to religious symbolism, one stellar symbol is one of ERB’s two greatest heroes, John Carter. JC/John Carter is godlike in a very Christian sense. Carter has the life span of a god. Carter is godlike because he comes into the world of Barsoom...
