Let’s dive deeper into when Danny Stutsman’s picture blew up on social media. The picture of Stutsman smoking a cigar in the locker room was taken shortly after the Oklahoma Sooners defeated the Texas Longhorns in the Red River Rivalry game on October 7, 2023. The game was a thrilling comeback for the Sooners, who trailed by 21 points in the third quarter but rallied to win 55-48 with a touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to Marvin Mims as time expired. Stutsman had a solid game with eight tackles and a tackle for loss.

The image of Stutsman and his cigar was first posted on Twitter by Oklahoma’s official football account, @OU_Football, with the caption “Sooner Smoke” and a fire emoji1. The tweet quickly went viral, garnering over 20,000 likes and 4,000 retweets in less than an hour. Many Oklahoma fans and former players commented on the tweet, praising Stutsman for his swagger and celebrating the win over their archrival. Some Texas fans and players, however, were not amused.

Some Texas players, such as wide receiver Xavier Worthy, have called out the Sooners for being disrespectful and arrogant. Others have praised Stutsman for his confidence and swagger. Stutsman has said that he meant no disrespect to Texas, but he was just having fun with his teammates after a hard-fought game. He also said that he respects the rivalry and hopes to play against Texas again in the Big 12 Championship game.
