#31115 e-Sword 11 Released

Posted by TimDeaton on 29 July 2017 - 10:41 AM

When v11 came out last year, I did NOT upgrade because the comments here made it seem wise to me to wait awhile.  Checking back today (29 Jul 2017), the most recent comment I see is from last August (11 months ago).  And the last e-Sword update also appears to be from 11 months ago (v11.0.6).

Have the glitches all been ironed out?  I'd really like to see some current comments on whether I should stick with v10.4 or move to the new version.

Thanks.

#20668 "Common English Bible" translation

Posted by TimDeaton on 09 March 2014 - 06:41 AM

Do you (or any of the other folks you know who create modules) have plans to create a module of the "Common English Bible" for eSword?

I've just recently become aware of it, because the youth pastor at our church is using that translation.  It seems that the seminary he's attending is encouraging use of this translation.  It's a new translation, so it might have to be handled by the eStudySource folks, but I haven't found it either there, in the eSword program's downloads list, or here on BibleSupport yet.

What little I've heard in the CEB sounds strange to my ears, and I'd like to have a copy in eSword where I can look at it side-by-side with other translations.

Thanks for any feedback.

#19789 Files Downloaded

Piggybacking on Josh's comments, you could:

1. Go to | Downloads | View Files You Downloaded | on this site.

2. For each page in the list, drag across all listed items and hit [ctrl-c] to copy them.

3. Go to your spreadsheet or email program and [ctrl-v] to paste them (each page below the previous pasted page, of course).

For me, the spreadsheet worked best, and Excel worked better than LibreOffice Calc.  Paste all your data in the spreadsheet, and THEN resize the columns to see the contents better.  After resizing the columns, highlight the entire spreadsheet, hover over the break between any two row numbers so that the pointer icon changes, then double-click and ALL the rows will automatically resize.  Excel will automatically make room for rows that still need more than one row of text visible; LibreOffice resets all rows to 1-row height, and you'd have to manually resize rows that need more.

For my email program (Thunderbird), the table copies fine.  But you need to create several blank rows in the email message area first, so that each copy/paste section can anchor to its own row.

You could also use a text editor, but separation into columns is not well-preserved there.

#7935 NIV.bblx no longer accessible

Posted by TimDeaton on 07 April 2012 - 04:37 PM

My e-Sword NIV copy included both the 1984 and the 2011 NIV translations.  The 84 version is tabbed as "NIV84".  But within the last 2 years, the publishers pulled the 1984 version (and all marketing permission) off the market.  I distinctly recall an eStudySource ad saying "Get it now - the last time it will be available".  I think it's a tragic shame that a publisher would do that.  In my mind it shows an admission by the publisher that the newer version couldn't stand up against the older version.
