Hello Admins,
It gave me a scary recently when I couldn't start E-Sword. Finally it was fixed and I could use it again.
But then I was lookiing at messages here on the forum to see if there was a possibly new version in work.
It seems there are none and the developer is also not so young.. sorry, don't want to insult him indirectly.
I wish him a long life and may God bless him for this wonderful work!
But there is my concern. What happens tomorrow when he cannot develop anymore because of the age?
What happens if there will come another strange Windows update and it doesn't work anymore?
The code of ESword is not public, as far as I know.. Please correct me if I am wrong and if there is a forseen solution to this.
If not, and I also cannot promise too much or anything at all for the moment, becuase my free time is quite limited, I had the idea to develop in (open) Java a Bible "viewer", that could work with converted sqlite databases from ESword.
On my side, I wouldn't restrict my programming source code to anything but to further possible comercial restrictions.. otherwise anyone should be able to see, modify/improve and distribute what I would do. I have been also greatly blessed by the work of many selfless persons.
So, any comments, ideas, license issues, etc? Would it be welcome at all?
I wouldn't like to infringe some rules of this blessed project.
My program wouldn't be so extensive, at least in the beginning, if no one extends it. I would like to make it able to read and search the normal and interlinear versions of the Bible, with translation, transliteration, grammer hints and Strong numbers (like Biblehub, maybe using their databse in ESword? or asking them for permission?), along with dictionary(ies), which I find fundamental. No advanced features like comentaries, maps, user notes, audio and so on.
What do you think about it?
Thank you,
DI
