In Topic: Useing E-Sword in Linux with Wine

07 April 2013 - 05:13 AM

hi george,

i am running ubuntu 12.04. as far as wine, the version i am using is wine 1.4.

with regards to wine installation etc. i added all the recommended add on. one thing i found quite usefull was the following overides in wine:

jscript (native, built in)

msvcr90 (native, builtin)

msxml3 (native)

oleaut32 (native, built in)

riched20 (native, built in)

now, i also installed wine from the ubuntu repository and the sword installation was the latest one, i did not upgrade any version. not sure if this is of any help, but the sword module is working quite well, full search functions, highlight etc. although, i do not use the sword module download etc.

hope it helps,

cheers

In Topic: Commentaries - Nicoll, William - The Expositor's Greek Testament (5 vols)

28 July 2012 - 06:40 AM

hi josh,
quick question. i downloaded the latest version of the NT greek commentary. however, i do not have a very clear font etc. see below:

Chapter 5:1-5. His expectation of a Glorified Body hereafter; and his desire to survive until the Second Advent.—Ver. 1. οu7988 δu945 μu949 νγu8048 ρκτλ: for (in explanation of 4:17) we know, sc., we Christians (cf. Rom_7:14, 1Co_8:1), that if our earthly (ἐu960 ίu947 εu953 οu962  as contrasted with ἐu960 οu965 ρu940 νu953 οu962 ; see reff.) tabernacle-house be dissolved, etc. Despite the fact that he was himself a σu954 ηu957 οu960 οu953 όu962  (Act_18:3), this is the only place where St. Paul employs any of the terms correlative to σu954 ηu957 ήplain . It is natural to think of the temporary character of the σu954 ῆu957 αu953  used by the Chosen People in the desert wanderings, an idea which is probably present in 2Pe_1:14, ἡἀu960 όu952 εu963 ιu962  τu959 ῦσu954 ηu957 ώu956 αu964 όu962  μu959 υplain ; but the use of σu954 ῆu957 οu962  as a depreciatory term for the “bodily frame” (R.V. mg.) is borrowed, as Field has shown, from the Pythagorean philosophy

is this a matter of me setting up font etc? i have esword 10.1. although running with cross over, which should not be an issue, i hope.
thanks for your time.

FYI...

Bible analyzer now will run native in Windows, Linux, and Mac.

Yes, and no.

For all practical purposes, there is no re-usable code in the Windows program, when porting from Windows to Linux. Consequently one has to rewrite the Linux program from scratch.
There is one programming language that comes close to write once, run anywhere, and that is Python. For commercial reasons, Rick can't rewrite e-Sword in Python.

hi guys,
thanks for the updates!

In Topic: What Modules do you want for e-Sword

23 July 2012 - 06:07 AM

I don't believe e-Sword will ever be natively available on Linux. As for Alford, I'm reworking that module now into verse by verse commentary divisions, with footnotes and proper Greek display.

hi josh!
thanks for the update. great to hear you are working on that project. sad to hear that esword may not be available natively on linux. is that due to any complication in programing? although, never mind one can always find a way around.
many thanks,
