#21319 Unicode / Diacritics in e-Sword and MySword

Posted by bssa_martin on 12 June 2014 - 04:19 AM

Hi there

I'm in the process of creating a new Venda Bible for e-Sword & MySword and I'm running into problems with unicode / diacritic characters e.g. ḽ ṱ ḓ ṋ

After creating the RTF file in Tooltip NT, I exported it with and without unicode:

1. Modules --> Save Bible File - book chap:verse

2. Modules --> Save Bible File - Unicode Text - book chap:verse

In e-Sword the special characters were displayed as either white blocks or a question mark (?). I could fix that quite easily by changing the default font from Georgia to Arial Unicode MS.

The main problem lies with MySword for Android.

Either the special characters are ignored (a blank space instead of the character) or the unicode code is displayed on my phone e.g. \u1E4B

I'm working with plain text with no special formatting or colours.

Here is a sample extract of the text before I export:

GEN_1:1 U rangani Mudzimu o sika ḽiṱaḓulu na ḽifhasi.
GEN_1:2 Ḽifhasi ḽo vha ḽi si na tshivhumbeo, nahone hu si na tshithu khaḽo; ho vha hu na swiswi, ḽifhasi ḽó tibwa nga dzivha, hone Muya wa Mudzimu o alama kha maḓi.
GEN_1:3 Mudzimu a ri, “Nga hu vhe na tshedza!” tshedza tsha mbo ḓi vha hone.

Is there a way to embed a unicode font directly into the .bblx (e-Sword) and .bbl.mybible (MySword for Android) files so it displays properly on the intended output screens (PC or mobile)?

Otherwise is there a specific way I should convert them to work properly?

Any tips or advice would be appreciated as my other Bibles work perfectly except for the ones containing diacritic characters.

Martin
