This module is a hybrid of the English Revised Version (RV) of the Old Testament (1885) paired with the American Standard Version (ASV) of the New Testament (1901) as adapted to readings from the Robinson-Pierpont Byzantine Textform 2005 by Jeff Huddleston and further revised by myself, primarily inspired by Jeff's JPS-ASVII module. I've spaced the lines at 1.5 for ease of reading on electronic devices.
Why the ERV? Unlike the ASV, in which the Divine Name (YHWH) was translated as 'Jehovah' something like 6,500 times, the Divine Name was translated 'Adonai' or the familiar 'the LORD' by the English committee. So, you get the accuracy of the Revised Authorised Version with the reverence that God's Name deserves. You also get the accuracy of the ASV New Testament, often considered the most accurate in the English language, thoroughly updated to reflect the best manuscript traditon available - the Majority Text. Why no Apocrypha? Easy: it's not in the Canon.
I'd like to think of this as something of a 'community project':
1) Though the RV OT comes from an 'official' eSword module, it seems the text it was made from could use some proofreading. If anyone spots typos, errors in punctuation, etc. in the Old Testament portion of this module - please bring them to my attention for an edit.
2) If anyone spots a verse in the ASV NT that could be more closely revised to match R-P 2005, shoot me a message and I'll evaluate it for an edit.
3) both the RV and ASV are in the public domain; feel free to spread this module around, edit it, adapt it, revise it, add to it, etc.
I highly recommend downloading the Robinson-Pierpont Majority Text module from eSword as well as the transliterated R-P module from BibleSupport. That way you can directly compare this module's New Testament with the Greek text that it is based on.
