#58567 Tip from Rick Meyers. How to try version 14 and 15 side by side

Note you will need the 15.2.0 installer

#58566 Try e-Sword 14.x and 15 at the same time. Tip from Rick Meyers

Posted by JPG on 16 August 2026 - 11:27 AM

I added a few files to the setup that e-Sword 15 does not need, but 14.x does.  This makes it easy for users to try out 15 without fully committing to it.  Simply rename your 14.5 EXE to e-Sword_1450.exe (for example), then install 15.2 (do not uninstall 14.5).  After installation, start 14.5 and reset the user files path, if needed.  Now that you have 14.5 working, start 15.2.  Both will share most Registry entries and run side-by-side just fine.  :-)

#58522 Font issues in e-Sword 15 and Rick Meyers response

Posted by JPG on 13 August 2026 - 07:00 AM

Jon,

I would love to have the AHLB work on the PC.  The problem is two-fold.  First, the font for the AHLB is an ASCII font that replaces the standard A-Z characters with the special glyphs used in the AHLB.  Second, the TXTextControl refuses to use the font I specify for right-to-left languages.  That is why all the RTL languages, such as Hebrew and Arabic, always revert to Arial when displayed.

The AHLB is one of those modules which currently needs to be RTF-based on the PC for proper rendering.  If the AHLB is a must-have, then e-Sword 14.5 is the only solution.

#58361 Comments on UI changes in Version 15

Posted by JPG on 05 August 2026 - 06:32 AM

Is there a users manual?  I was wondering if the user would be able to change the windows or modules that are open instead of using the preset ones at the top.  I just changed to 15.1.1.

Thanks,

Eric Roberts

No there is not a user manual. There is just some basic info on www.e-sword.net where you obtained e-Sword from.

There is a getting started page https://www.e-sword.net/tutorial.html

Honestly it is so simple. controls when hovered give a popup that informs you of the function.

The preset views are in keeping with mobile counterparts. It is just a case of educating ones brain down a different path. It is jarring at first and then it becomes normal.

#58299 Comments on UI changes in Version 15

With e-Sword for the PC version 15.1.0 (updated by Rick Meyers 21 July 2026) the diacritic marks added to a letter to indicate a different pronunciation, stress, tone, or meaning, and diaeresis where a vowel is to be pronounced separately from the previous vowel, and may be replaced by another letter when transliterated into another language, some characters of which do not display correctly when using Verdana as the default font, display okay when the default font is changed to True Type Times New Roman, which apparently has an extended range of letter characters.

Rick Meyers appears to have implemented previous suggestions. To see the information name of the book you have open, use Right click. This applies to Bible, Commentary, Lexicon, and Dictionary. That's where the transcriber of the book into e-Sword added the front-page details of the name of the book, the author, the publisher and the copyright details, and may have copied the information that appeared in the FOREWORD and the PREFACE, and other important Information pages that appeared before the pages of the text of the book.

It is good to have it on the context menu. To me that is more intuitive.

#58226 Mysword replacing bible chapter with book chapter and notes.

Posted by JPG on 26 July 2026 - 09:09 AM

When reading notes in a Commentary, there are three view options.

B (Display Book Comments)

C (Display Chapter Comments). The list of appropriate verse links are probably also listed.

V (Display Verse Comments). This has comments if they were linked separately for the selected verse number, in the selected Book and Chapter number.

Have you got a screen shot of these B C V options?

Fixes one issue for sure and that was a missing sub routine.

Paste Into xxxxx now works from the Dictionary view.

#58152 e-Sword 15 and Tooltip NT

Posted by JPG on 16 July 2026 - 09:58 PM

The older Windows modules format such as bblx, cmtx, dctx etc will not work in e-Sword 15 so before installing e-Sword 15 you will need convert any old modules to the html formats using either the e-Sword module converter, Tooltip NT or Simple Bible Reader

This is where confusion can start. When is a .bblx file not rtf content? Answer, when it is html content but sill uses the .bblx extension. We don't want newer or inexperienced users to attempt to convert the official modules do we? I do understand the intent of your statement but others may not.

#58144 e-Sword 15 and Tooltip NT

Posted by JPG on 16 July 2026 - 12:17 PM

Note the response I already posted from Rick. The e-Sword app has only ever converted *user files*.  E-Sword takes care of this itself when it encounters an older version of a user file.

Jon,

Since I cannot reply to topics, nor add new topics, maybe you can relay the misinformation or misunderstandings that I am finding on the forum.

The current hot topic seems to be the concept of conversion.  The e-Sword app has only ever converted *user files*.  E-Sword takes care of this itself when it encounters an older version of a user file.  As for the modules themselves... HTML-based modules have been the default for 10 years, starting with the release of e-Sword 11.  Any person that started using e-Sword since 2016 has never had an RTF-based module, unless they downloaded it from the user group.

No one is forced to update to e-Sword 15, but if one chooses to do so then I suggest not worrying about converting.  Just update; see what might be missing, then download the appropriate module as needed.

Rick Meyers
