#29303 Anyone got an older copy of e-sword they'd share?

Posted by Nathaniel G. Taylor on 29 October 2016 - 07:32 PM in e-Sword Questions & Answers

Does anyone have copies of any of the following versions of e-Sword they'd be willing to share with me: 10, 9, (I'd even settle for 8, if it's what I can get)?

I know that this is a potential hot-button issue, what with trying to get everyone to update to the most current version, and all. However, I am using an older system that cannot run Windows 10 (even if I did have the money to buy it), and version 11 is not compatible with Windows XP, apparently.

I used to have e-Sword on this machine, and it used to run great for me. Sure, it had a few quirks here and there, but they were manageable (just as much as the current version does, I'm sure). Now, I don't have anything and the only reason is that I tried to upgrade to the current version, without realizing that it wouldn't work with my OS, nor that I would lose the program entirely because I didn't have a backup copy of the old setup file. So, I'm stuck.

Yes, it's an old machine.

No, it isn't about to die. It is stable, if not up-to-date.

If you have a copy of an older version, and you're willing to share it, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Nathaniel

#29265 E-sword won't run on my Windows XP (SP 3) system

So, e-sword is no longer compatible with Windows XP? Is that what you're telling me?

#29247 E-sword won't run on my Windows XP (SP 3) system

I tried to "run as administrator" (though I don't have that option in those words for Windows XP, but tried something equivalent), but it did not work. I also followed the directions in the thread you linked, but it also did not work.

Any other ideas?

#29229 E-sword won't run on my Windows XP (SP 3) system

I had been using an older version of e-sword (sorry, don't know which one because I lost it when I tried to upgrade). Recently, I noticed that I couldn't download any new resources and discovered that it was because I wasn't using the new v. 11.0.6. So, I downloaded the new version and installed it, but as soon as the install was complete, the program would not open. When I click the icon (or select it from the start menu list) all that happens is the cursor briefly changes to the "working" cursor (pointer w/ hourglass). Nothing else. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. redownloading the setup file and reinstalling, even removed all the resources I had previously downloaded from "program files" as well as "documents/e-sword."

Any ideas on why it isn't working for me?
