What's New in Version 1.0 (See full changelog)
- Uploaded Mac/e-sword 11 version.
It is a very interesting translation, an unorthodox one and very enlightening at times. It is great to compare with Murdock's version of a few years later. Clifford Besson of http://Truthandlightministries.org.
I haven't done a close study but I think Lamsa is pretty much the state of the art for Syriac text versions, particularly enjoyable to read

PESHITTO, or Peshito (i.e. “simple”), the standard version of the Bible in the Syriac language. It was long supposed to be the original Syriac version, but is now generally recognized as representing a revision made by Rabbula, bishop of Edessa, early in the 5th century, an attempt at standardizing the Syriac text such as Jerome had made for the Latin in his Vulgate.
John Wesley Etheridge (24 February 1804 – 24 May 1866) was an English nonconformist minister and scholar. He was the first person to translate the four gospels from the Syriac Peshitta into English (1846), shortly before the full New Testament was translated by James Murdock (1856).
John Wesley Etheridge - A Literal Translation of the Four Gospels From the Peschito, or Ancient Syriac and The Apostolical Acts and Epistles From the Peschito, or Ancient Syriac: To Which Are Added, the Remaining Epistles and The Book of Revelation, After a Later Syriac Text (1849).
The Peshitta (Classical Syriac: ܦܫܺܝܛܬܳܐ or ܦܫܝܼܛܬܵܐ pšīṭta) is the standard version of the Bible for churches in the Syriac tradition, including the Maronite Church, the Chaldean Catholic Church, the Syriac Catholic Church, the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Malabar Independent Syrian Church (Thozhiyoor Church), the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, the Mar Thoma Syrian Church, the Assyrian Church of the East and the Syro-Malabar Church. The consensus within biblical scholarship, although not universal, is that the Old Testament of the Peshitta was translated into Syriac from Biblical Hebrew, probably in the 2nd century AD, and that the New Testament of the Peshitta was translated from the Greek, probably in the early 5th century. This New Testament, originally excluding certain disputed books (2 Peter, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation), had become a standard by the early 5th century. The five excluded books were added in the Harklean Version (AD 616) of Thomas of Harqel.
