Found the problem. apparently I need a password (which is long gone or lost).
Scofield notes were purchased in 2006 timeframe, and that's too long ago.

One additional piece of information : The same procedure that fails for Scofield worked perfectly for my .top file from Anderson, Robert.

Recently I discovered that I have some older .top files (Scofiled 1917, and Robert Anderson)
I carefully read the instructions below
I entered the editor, and CTRL-RIGHT CLICK to expose the Open option
Then I selected Old Style Top as the file type,
And I used the browser dialog to find the .top file (which was in program file/e-sword, not in the Documents/e-sword of the later version
It looked like it was going to open :
the line read :
Scofiled, Cyrus I. - Scofield Reference Bible Notes (1917).TOPX(!)
but the contents remained blank.
I have tried to repeat this changing the file type to "topx",
Nothing displays the CONTENT. I have been blessed in time past by notes correcting my misunderstandings, and I would appreciate a helping hand here.

I encountered the same problem installing under wine.
The fix is as follows : download mfc90u.dll.
navigate over to this directory:
~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/e-Sword ToolTip Tool NT/TX28
You should see tx4ole28.ocx in the directory.
Add mfc90u.dll to this same directory, then run
regsvr32 tx4ole28.ocx
and on my system, the OCX registers nicely.
Hope this helps.

I guess I misunderstood what was meant by these lines in the CMTX header:
I have done so, but it does not seem that any of the images I inserted are showing up in the CMTX modules. Of course, in TOPX they show up just fine, and so one solution is to move over to that. But it seems to me that I should be able to get the desired results with these selections. Wrapping style is changed to Top and Bottom,
Embed selection is "data in document" JPEG is selected, and size is 75% at 120 DPI
Is this supposed to work, or not? A previous comment encouraged me to ask again. I am using the latest, I believe: 2020.04.11

I want to include some images in my commentary on Daniel 2 (the Image Dream).
What is the right way to do this so I get the desired results?
I have set the wrapping style to top and bottom.
On the Saving Options tab, I left "Embed data in document",
Save as type JPEG
Resolution is 240 dpi
Compression quality 75%.
When I save the commentary, and look for the image, it is not there (even though it is always present in the .RTF
If I save the RTF and exit, and then resume, the selections on the Saving Options tab vanish, and I have to select them again (JPEG, 75%)
But even so, I do not get images in the CMTX.
What am I doing wrong? Should I be selecting Export Image and embed file reference? How does that work?
I did not find anything about this in the excellent documentation, which I am extremely impressed by. I am well along in my Daniel commentary!
Many thanks.
