A Conservative Version is a modern English version of the Bible translated by Dr. Walter L. Porter. The OT is based on the American Standard Version, in which mostly minor word changes have been made. The NT is based on an edition compiled by M. A. Robinson and W. G. Pierpont. The Old English pronouns (thee, thy, etc) have been kept because they provide more information than the often ambiguous word "you". As the name suggests, it is a very conservative translation. That is, it is a very literal translation, very much following formal equivalence translation principles.
The translator strongly opposes dynamic equivalence, as seen in the following quote from his website: "Finally, a word of warning about modern English translations. Most of them (including the popular NIV) distort the original text of the Bible with many changes. The authors of those translations use the so-called 'dynamic equivalent' method, which is simply a flattering euphemism for loose translating." The two main reasons to create this translation were:
- to make a more accurate English translation of the Bible
- to make it free
