J. W. McGarvey was perhaps the leading Bible scholar of the Restoration Movement during the late 19th and early 20th century. W. K Pendleton had been McGarvey's teacher at Bethany College, and was the man who baptized McGarvey. Philip Y. Pendleton, co-author with McGarvey on these commentaries, was W. K. Pendleton's son.

This module contains commentaries on the four gospels, Acts, Romans, 1&2 Corinthians, Galatians, and 1&2 Thessalonians.

The excellent gospel commentaries were written as a harmony of the gospels, interleaving the text of the four gospels chronologically with commentary in-line. In the e-Sword module, the links are in normal book/chapter/verse order which doesn't lend itself to reading from beginning to end as a harmony of the gospels. (It would be nice to have this as an e-Sword harmony (.harx) file.)

The commentary on Acts is especially good. It is still used as the text for a graduate level course on the book of Acts at Harding graduate school.

As provided for e-Sword for Windows version 9.x-10.x Jun 14, 2011, this was last updated Dec 31, 2021 to also provide a version for Mac/e-Sword for Windows version 11 and later. There are now only two file options from which to select. [1] McGarvey and Pendleton Commentaries15.cmtx 13.87 MB [2] mcgarvey_and_pendleton_commentaries15.cmti 12.18 MB
Depending on which version of e-Sword you are running, download the appropriate option, Thereafter arrange to move the file to the e-Sword folder. Then close and restart e-Sword to view the file.

In the Commentary maximized option (Ctrl+F3) the Tab Name for e-Sword for Windows is MCGAR McGarvey and Pendleton Commentaries. The MCGAR Information window explains:
