Diodati’s 1641 Bible (second edition) was edited throughout the 1800’s, with revisions finalized in 1885 and minor updates to punctuation and wording continuing up to 1933. Hebrews 10:12, Colossians 4:9 and John 15:20 are verses which show a difference between the 1885 and 1933 texts. During the 1900s, two main texts of Diodati’s Bible were printed: one based on the 1894 revision and this one. This edition remains closer to Diodati’s original text, though a few word changes were introduced. In Revelation 22:19, Diodati’s original “book of life” was changed to “tree of life” in the 1850s. Around the same time, certain words considered crude (puttaneggiato, mestruata, prepuzio, etc.) were replaced with milder expressions. Several serious printing errors have persisted in this text. For example: • Ezekiel 43:11 is missing “e tutte le sue forme”; • Jeremiah 35:11 omits “d’innanzi all’esercito de’ Caldei, e”; • Mark 3:7-8 omits “Galilea.” All of these errors first appeared in the 1861 edition. In Ezekiel 17:5, the reading should be “ai” or “a’ grandi acque” (correct until 1885). In Ezekiel 29:21, a likely erroneous comma was introduced in 1861: “a te darò, apritura.”
