This is a systematic theology with some differences:

[1] It was written by a pastor, not a university theologian. It is therefore geared for evangelism and building up believers, rather than focusing mostly on students. This makes it more challenging than many other systematic theologies.

[2] It was written in a red-hot revival era (1700, in Holland) - and has that uncompromising and spiritual flavor associated with such times. It covers more than just beliefs; there is much on Christian living.

[3] Unlike many other revival-era books, it is written in modern English - newly translated recently.

A'Brakel's work is applied theology - and a gold mine for pastors. Very warm and practical, dealing with real issues of the congregation. What a treasure has been given to us by those on this site.
