I haven't used the IVP Bible Background commentary myself but i heard its OK , you can check reviews on amazon. Craig keener (the author) has a free 82 page document on backgrounds, check his website.

i'm trying to download the ESV 2016 but my esword downloder is not downloading. I can see the bibles highlighted with blue and when i move my cursor to the bibles it reads "click here to download" however after clicking it jus stays on 0 percent.
