Rev. Steve, Yes, Thai is read left to right. It isn't all that difficult to learn to read! Otherwise, I wouldn't have learned how to do it! 

Here is your first Thai language lesson: The word for "five" in Thai is pronounced, roughly "ha." So, "555" is used in Thai texting as shorthand for "ha ha ha."  LOL

I appreciate your suggestion about rolling up my sleeves. If you only had any idea what was actually up those sleeves, you would understand why this is taking so long!   555

Rev Steve, True! I'm going to guess that there must be a copyright/ licensing issue involved at some point here. I'm not sure how to even investigate that, much less resolve it. However, lacking this version on e-Sword A) doesn't detract from the usefulness of e-Sword otherwise and B ) is only a minor inconvenience for me (and probably anyone else, for that matter!).

Like acjthai, I felt/ feel it would be nice to have this version available for e-Sword. However, since it is so widely available on other platforms, it can be consulted easily enough and compared with Dr. Pope's ThaiKJV. 

I have been serving overseas in Thailand for many years and have been wondering if anyone has any upcoming plans to make a module of the 1971 Thai Standard Version Bible (TH1971) for e-Sword (and, hopefully in the near future, the iPhone and iPad versions, as well)?  It is available for free download on the You Version bible app for my iPhone and iPad mini; so, permission must have been respectfully granted to do so.  

 

I only ask, because the 1971 Thai Standard Version is the one that almost every member in every church throughout the country listens to and reads every Sunday.  The Philip Pope KJV version available now on e-Sword (i.e. TKJV) is helpful as a translation with which to compare the TH1971 version, but limited in its usefulness in public bible reading and audio, sermon/teaching preparation, Scripture memory, etc. in the typical local Thai church.  If someone could develop this module, I am sure that all of the foreign expats and national Thai leaders and church members, alike, will be SO blessed and grateful!

I have been in contact with Ron Myers, an accomplished Bible translator who has translated the New Testament into Isan/ Lao. Earlier in this thread, he said: "News: The 1971 Thai Standard Version Bible has been in e-Sword format for years." Unfortunately for those who would like to have this Bible module, it is not now available, if it ever really was. 

Dr. Pope's ThaiKJV is basically a revision of the TH1971 Bible. It differs from it in a number of places, the first place being Genesis 1:1!  LOL  I have not done a full comparison, but in the places where I have found differences, I think the ThaiKJV is preferable. It may never gain the popularity of other Thai versions, but it is a fantastic resource for helping us foreigners explain the meaning in common language.  No matter what version you have, this one is an excellent addition.

Ron Myers told me that the TH1971 is available on theWord program. As an added bonus, so is Ron Myers' Isan/ Lao translation! So, that is another option for finding the TH1971 version on a useful (and free) platform.

I am so satisfied with e-Sword that I am in no mood to learn new tricks. The TH1971 is available in many places and one can always copy and paste text into the editor of e-Sword. Also, unless there are copyright issues, it should be possible to convert the TH1971 module for theWord to an e-Sword format. I wouldn't know how to do that, but perhaps someone with the right knowledge and skills could do it. In fact, aren't there programs that are designed for this?

It looks like the TH1971 version is NOT available in an e-Sword module. I'm not sure it ever has been, but I have been in contact with Ron Myers ("News: The 1971 Thai Standard Version Bible has been in e-Sword format for years.") and he does not have this module nor does he know where to get it. So...

I found a PDF for Kindle (http://www.christian....org/Kindle.htm), but when changing the PDF to text, the Thai script gets messed up a lot. I doubt it would be worth anybody's time to try to change that into an e-Sword module!  

In any case, the TH1971 is available in many other places.

That is actually a quote from Ron Myers. Dr. Pope's Thai-KJV may be usable, but it is not the same as the Thai 1971 version.  I will see if I can find a PDF of it. Thank you for your help.

You can download the Thai-KJV bible mentioned by Rick Meyers from e-Sword's built in downloader by clicking Download from the e-Sword menu located along the top of the e-Sword interface. 

Clicking Download will open a drop down menu with 6 download options the first option on the list is Bibles click this to open the Bibles download window. Once this window opens scroll down until you see the Thai bible listed.

It would sure be nice to have this version available. Both of the other versions are fine, but they are not in as wide of use.
