A Tale of Ten Virgins Or,
A Sober Warning to Those Who Look for the Pre-Tribulational Rapture
By Tom Stewart
“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man” (Luk. 21:36).
This is a short 1 chapter work on warning to all those who look for the Pre-Tribulation Rapture.
Synopsis:
A Tale of Ten Virgins by Tom Stewart is a compelling modern retelling of the biblical parable found in Matthew 25:1-13, which explores themes of preparedness, faith, and the importance of spiritual vigilance. Stewart’s narrative weaves together the lives of ten young women, each facing unique circumstances and moral choices, illustrating how their decisions impact their futures and spiritual destinies.
The story begins in a small, contemporary town where ten friends—five wise and five foolish—are preparing for a significant upcoming event: a grand wedding celebration. The wise virgins are characterized by their diligence, faith, and readiness, consistently cultivating their spiritual lives and maintaining a sense of vigilance. The foolish virgins, on the other hand, are portrayed as complacent, neglectful, and distracted by worldly pursuits, failing to prioritize their spiritual preparedness.
As the wedding day approaches, the wise virgins stockpile oil for their lamps, symbolizing their spiritual readiness and deep relationship with faith. The foolish virgins, however, neglect to do so, assuming there will always be enough time to prepare later. When the bridegroom finally arrives unexpectedly in the still of the night, the wise virgins are ready and able to join the celebration. The foolish virgins, lacking sufficient oil, find themselves unprepared and are temporarily barred from entering the festivities, highlighting the biblical message that one must always be vigilant and prepared because the timing of divine intervention or salvation is uncertain.
Throughout the narrative, Stewart delves into the personal struggles and growth of each character. Some of the foolish virgins experience remorse and regret their complacency, realizing too late the importance of spiritual diligence. Conversely, the wise virgins serve as models of faith and perseverance, demonstrating that consistent spiritual discipline pays off when it matters most.
Stewart also explores contemporary issues such as materialism, peer pressure, and spiritual complacency, making the parable's lessons relevant to modern readers. The story emphasizes that superficial appearances or temporary pleasures cannot replace genuine spiritual readiness. It challenges readers to examine their own lives—whether they are cultivating their faith and maintaining their spiritual lamps, or if they are neglecting their inner preparedness.
The climax of the story underscores the urgency of vigilance, as the characters confront the realization that spiritual complacency can have dire consequences. The narrative concludes with a reflective tone, urging readers to consider their own "oil"—their faith, virtues, and moral integrity—and to remain steadfast in their spiritual journey.
In the final pages, Stewart reinforces the core message: readiness and faith are essential, and one must always stay vigilant, for the opportunity for salvation or divine encounter can come unexpectedly. The story serves as both a caution and an encouragement, reminding us that spiritual preparedness is an ongoing process that requires intentional effort and sincere devotion.
Overall, A Tale of Ten Virgins by Tom Stewart offers a thought-provoking, accessible retelling of a timeless biblical lesson, urging readers to reflect on their spiritual lives and embrace vigilance and faith as guiding principles in their daily existence.
