Requires 10.1+

Tab Name:
Hermeneutics Assistant

An internet connection is required by the online version. A free offline version is available at https://grapheapps.com
and does not require an internet connection to generate reports.

Requires e-Sword v10.1 or later (uses the .cmti format). At this time the program is PC ONLY.

Hermeneutics Assistant brings a complete grammatico-historical study workflow into e-Sword, with the goal of arriving at
the single and fixed meaning of the Biblical text. It applies the methods outlined in Milton S. Terry's book "Biblical Hermeneutics",
along with a redemptive-historical review. Each of the11 steps are documented in the selected passage's printable report.

Select Hermeneutics Assistant in the commentary window, with any verse selected, you'll see that verse's key original language
terms (each Strong's number opens the Lexicon) plus historical background on the people and places it names — drawn from
Strong's, the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge, and Easton's Bible Dictionary. That per-verse study content works
inside e-Sword on its own.

"CTRL Click" the "Generate a full Report" link and a full 11-step exegetical report is produced for any verse, verse range, or
chapter you choose, applying Milton S. Terry's grammatico-historical method, with a redemptive-historical review
(Geerhardus Vos) and the Chicago Statement on Biblical Hermeneutics (ICBI, 1982) as guardrails. It completes the study
cycle — what it says, what it means, what to do — ending with eternal principles distilled from the passage and three
practical, principle-based applications. Every Scripture citation is verified verbatim against the text. You can print, save, or
copy parts of the report into the e-sword editor.

THE 11 STEPS:
1. Gather the passage — the verse(s) in your chosen translation plus the supporting data (Strong's, cross-references,
Easton's, Terry).
2. Preliminary observations — genre, occasion, and what the passage plainly presents, without imposing assumptions.
3. Lexical analysis — the most significant original-language words and their range of meaning.
4. Grammatical analysis — the syntax (clauses, tenses, connectives) that fixes the single sense.
5. Context, scope, and plan — the immediate context, the author's purpose, and the passage's place in the book.
6. Comparison of parallel passages — the most illuminating cross-references, letting Scripture interpret Scripture.
7. Historical standpoint — the time, customs, and circumstances that bear on the meaning.
8. Redemptive-historical context (Geerhardus Vos) — the passage's place in the unfolding story of redemption and its
witness to Christ.
9. Synthesis: the intended meaning — the single meaning the author intended, distilled into eternal, transferable
principles.
10. Suggested applications — three concrete, principle-based ways a believer today should believe, think, or act
11. Compose the report — assemble the findings and verify every Scripture citation verbatim.

How it works / requirements: The per-verse study content is built into the module and needs nothing extra. The full
reports are generated online at "hermassist.com", so an internet connection is required to produce a report (there is
nothing to install or run on your computer). Reports are produced by an on-device language model applying the method
above — an aid for study, not an authority; always test against Scripture.

Sources (all public domain): World English Bible, King James Version, Strong's Hebrew & Greek Dictionary, Treasury of
Scripture Knowledge, Easton's Bible Dictionary, and Milton S. Terry, Biblical Hermeneutics (1890).

For the past few days I haven’t been able to access the Hermeneutics Assistant Version online site https://hermassist.com/g/1/1/1. Is it only unavailable in Europe, or worldwide? Could it be that the module owner shut it down?
