Thank you all for your suggestions to find out why E-sword is getting slow at some times.

Unfortunately, all your suggested solutions did not work for me. E-sword was not slow in responding, but it took about 5 minutes (literally!) to get E-sword started - despite the fact that my laptop has an i7-6820HQ processor @ 2.70 GHz and 32,0 GB RAM installed. When I switched off Wifi, it was getting faster, but still took too much time.

But finally I found the cause!

It turned out that the slow start of e-sword had to do with my default printer. Because the default printer is located at my office, which is out of reach when I am working at home. When I set the 'Adobe PDF' printer as default, E-sword starts without any delay and is as fast as it should be.

Just wanted to share, because perhaps other E-sword users might have the same problem and it is not a logical place to go looking for the solution.
