#24109 ESV on MySword

Yes, the website was changed ever so slightly but it was easily fixable. The version that is included now should do the trick.

#22157 Android browser vulnerability

Posted by Atheist Rob on 17 September 2014 - 02:11 AM

I hope this post is not out of place, if it is a moderator is free to delete the post. Since MySword is an Android app, i thought this warning might be appropriate.

If you use a pre-KitKat version of Android (i.e Android version 4.3 or lower), do not use the stock browser, instead use a browser like Firefox or Chrome. The stock browser (aka AOSP browser) has a vulnerability that can be trivially exploited which allows a malevolent site to hijack other session that you have active at the same time. A good discussion of the subject can be read here: https://community.ra...r-cve-2014-6041 and the original CVE is here: http://www.cvedetail.../CVE-2014-6041/

#21986 Perl scripts to convert e-Sword 9 bblx and cmtx modules to mysword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 02 September 2014 - 09:26 AM

I'm sorry José, but my script won't work on your file. There are two ways to start and end the scope of an RTF tag. The first is by placing it in brackets like this:

this text contains a single {\i italic} word

or by using a start and a stop tag like this:

this text contains a single \i italic \i0 word.

In the latter case \i0 denotes the end of \i. The way my script works, it cannot handle the second type and your cmtx module is built using these kind of tags. I'll try to see if I can find some conversion tool but don't hold your breath...

Rob

#21982 Perl scripts to convert e-Sword 9 bblx and cmtx modules to mysword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 01 September 2014 - 03:28 PM

thanks for your help. Does work that script on cmtx file from 10.4 eSword version?
I had an error msg like "Use of uninitialized value within %fncolor in concatenatio (.) or string at esctmx2mys.pl line 298. RTF_ERR_66.22.21"

Hi José,

Is it possible that you mail the module to me so I can see how and where the problem occurs? If you zip the module and it's still larger than 7MB, email won't work. If that's the case I can make something available for you to upload it to. If it's smaller than 7MB you can mail it to bibsup at hamal.nl.

Rob

#21823 Perl scripts to convert e-Sword 9 bblx and cmtx modules to mysword

Hi José,

I modified the commentary conversion script. Could you try it out and get back to me if it doesn't do what you need? The zip file has been uploaded to the original post.

Rob

I'll take a look at it this weekend. I'm not making any promises though...

#21003 NIV, NASB, NLT and AMP on MySword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 02 May 2014 - 03:02 AM

The website changed so the script no longer works. I'm a little short on time right now, so I can't make any promises but I'll try to work on it as soon as I can. I fixed the error you mentioned but that wasn't sufficient. The module that gets created then has no verses in it.

#20475 how to create a link to specific bible?

Posted by Atheist Rob on 16 February 2014 - 02:36 AM

I know that to specify a specific dictionary you could use <a href="d-Easton WISDOM"> and for a specific commentary you can use <a href="c-TSK 1.2.3"> but I haven't seen anything for bible references. You could try the analogous <a href="b-KJV 45.8.28"> for Romans 8:28. I haven't tried it myself, so it might not work. Please do reply if it does, it's always good to know.

#19426 NIV, NASB, NLT and AMP on MySword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 19 November 2013 - 05:45 PM

Does this work with the Message Bible as well?

No, but I think the script can be modified to create that as well. I'll look into it.

#19425 NIV, NASB, NLT and AMP on MySword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 19 November 2013 - 05:36 PM

Ps  Rob you have done great work for the Christian community but I would rather you had not written this script. :(

Can we agree to disagree? The script constitutes no violation of any law, either Dutch or US, as far as I can tell. The copyright holders have themselves published the bibles on a website and all this script does is consuming that publication. Nothing is distributed. Also, nobody is obligated to use the script and when they do they are presented with big fat copyright warnings.

That said, I would love to see that this script becomes no longer necessary. If the copyright holders would make their bibles available for MySword I would gladly pull my script and request people to buy those modules instead.

I'm all for respecting copyrights but copyrights do not and should not enforce the way the material is used.

#19019 Can I get the notes that I made in Pocket eSword over to MySword?

Posted by Atheist Rob on 10 October 2013 - 04:15 PM

There used to be a Pocket version of BeST named BPeST. I have used that in the past in combination with BeST to create bible files for Pocket eSword. I don't recall if it has an export version but you could look into that. I no longer have a Win Mobile device to test it myself though.

#17701 NIV, NASB, NLT and AMP on MySword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 05 July 2013 - 10:41 AM

Users of e-Sword have the ability to buy some popular bibles like the one mentioned in the subject. MySword users can't, so I wrote a script that will parse the web pages from a website and convert them to a module for MySword. The script is written in perl and run in a Linux environment or in a Windows environment with Strawberry perl. See the instructions on my other perl script on how to do that. I will not make an e-Sword version of this script. Please buy the module instead.

Please note that you should only run this script if your local copyright law enables you to use the content of a website for something else than online browsing. If in doubt, do not use this script! In no way do I take any responsibility for someone else to violate copyright laws. Also, DO NOT distribute the generated module. That would definitely be a copyright violation.

Run the script with "perl niv4mysword.pl --version NIV" to create a module for the New International Version. Analogously use "NASB" for the New American Standard Bible, "NLT" for the New Living Translation and "AMP" for the Amplified Bible. Use "perl niv4mysword.pl --help" for a complete description.

I will not babysit the program. As soon as the website is modified and the script stops working, you're out of luck. It's a pretty time consuming job to find out the intricacies of the website so generate the modules while you can ;-)

The script is here: Attached File  niv4mysword.zip   9.43K   1184 downloads

Enjoy these bibles on MySword!

Regards,

Rob

#16864 Hebrew Fonts not Working in HiSB and HWSG

Posted by Atheist Rob on 09 May 2013 - 03:47 PM

Could it be a font issue? AFAIK the HOT+ and IHOT+ use Hebrew characters without vowel points, maybe the others have vowel points. You can download a different font here: http://www.mysword.i...d-mysword/fonts

#16606 BasicBijbel: a new Dutch paraphrase bible, now for MySword

Posted by Atheist Rob on 16 April 2013 - 03:44 AM

A Dutch lady named Jacoline Kleyn has taken 15 years to write her own paraphrase bible in as easy Dutch as possible. Quite an impressive work! The bible is available online at http://www.basicbijbel.nl/
By request of a fellow biblesupport user I have written a script to generate a MySword module, which you can find in the attachment. For instructions on how to use this script, please see my other perl script that I posted some time ago.

I have opted not to create an e-Sword module. The bible contains an introduction to every book and have quite a few notes within the text, all of which are essential to the result IMHO. I can incluse these in MySword bible modules as "translator's notes", but I see no way to do this with e-Sword (even though as I understood, e-Sword does have this feature). If Mrs. Kleyn would request me to do create a module for e-Sword, I surely would. In the mean time, MySword users can take advantage from this bible.

Rob
