#46159 Tooltip Unicode Fixup wipes my file

Posted by Tj Higgins on 07 April 2024 - 07:37 PM

Hi Tj...!

Thank you for your quick response. It actually widens my question...

My ordinary text in my commentary is most probably 99% of 3 MB standard text in the Calibri font, 12 point. If I don't run "Unicode Fix" that comes out perfectly, but the Hebrew quotes, come out as strange characters as indicated above. The Hebrew characters and text are all marked as Titus Cyberbit Basic, yet,, when I run "Hebrew Unicode Fixup", all my text is erased, except for my e-mail address.

My Tooltip version is V2020-04-11.

Thank you.

The font settings are for e-Sword not Tooltip as long as the correct fonts are set in e-Sword everything should work correctly with out needing use the fixups

#46130 Font for Hebrew (eg HBSE+++) which aligns vowel pointings?

Posted by Tj Higgins on 01 April 2024 - 01:31 PM

Thanks for your reply.  Typo, yes BHSE+++.  I've installed PC_BHSE+++.bbli

SBL Hebrew font seems the best.  I've also tried Ezra Sil which was recommended on a post somewhere here.  I don't get any of them to display properly.

I did get a message from Rick to contact the creator, so not sure if anyone here has resolved this.

Image attached.

First your attached image in your last post does not appear in your post

Second that particular module has more then one upload here on Bible Support the original upload is for use the Apple/Mac versions of e-Sword back in 2016 with an updated version released in 2018.

This version is at the following link her on Bible Support:

http://www.biblesupp...etcbc-4b-hebre/

Last year Bible Support member Elder B created a version for the Windows version of e-Sword as a bbli module. Elder B's new version arranges the bible verses in tables which makes for a clean neat and unique appearance.

In his post for the module he stated the required font setting which are as follows:

"FONT SETTINGS:

For optimum alignment, I use a Default Font of Segoe UI with Default Font Size 11 and a Hebrew font of TITUS Cyberbit Basic"

Here is the link to the Windows version of this module:

#46055 Android, and a commentary that won't delete

Posted by Tj Higgins on 08 March 2024 - 07:12 PM

Can anyone else reproduce a weird problem with the Android version of eSword and/or advise a solution?

Try as I might, I cannot permanently delete the pre-installed FB Meyer commentary from the Android version. Every time it appears to be successfully deleted, after a restart of eSword it's back.

I use eSword on Mac and iOS, neither of which exhibit this issue.

Any ideas?

It needs to be there in order for the Android version to work correctly, just like the Windows version requires both the KJV and KJV+ bible modules to work correctly

#46052 The file TX27_WND.DLL has not been found. (Code: 0x000000c1)

Posted by Tj Higgins on 06 March 2024 - 07:07 PM

I have run this app on PC #1 for years then this error popped up.  At the time ToolTip was not installed and installing it had no effect.  I grew tired of the issue and installed it on a Hyper V PC running same OS.  Works fine.  I will probably end up using something like ccleaner to scrub the registry

Thanks guys

It has to due with recent modules created using one of the last two releases of Tooltip NT which use newer text controls. So if a module has been created using one of the those two releases, e-Sword is looking for the one of the newer text control dll files

#45984 Format for a hyperlink to a note in a Notes table within .bbli

Posted by Tj Higgins on 21 February 2024 - 05:23 PM

The ESV+.bblx module has notes contained within a Notes table.  Within the Bible table a note such as N1 will link to the corresponding note in the Notes table when one mouseovers the N1 in the Bible text.

I would like to do the same in a custom .bbli module.  The ESV+.bblx module is scrambled so I cannot see how they did it.

I have tried <not>N1</not> and that does not work.  I am guessing that some hyperlink in my bbli module such as <a href="..."><not>N1</not></a> might work, but I don't know what to put in the place of ... so that it links to the proper note in the Notes table within my .bbli module.

You need to use an SQL database program to create the notes table which is where you will put all of the notes information  The table will consist of five columns and as a many rows as you need for your notes. Each note will have a row in the notes table containing three numbers, a note identifier and the text of the note.

The three numbers in each row identify the book, chapter and verse which will have the pop-up note, the identifier such as N1. The text for each note is formatted as show below:

<RF>While the rest of chapter 1 uses ordinal numbers (eg. second, third, fourth, etc.) verse 5 actually uses the Hebrew word (ech 'ad), which is the cardinal number one. This is different from the ordinal number meaning "first" which is represented by the Hebrew word (rish'on). Thus it literally reads, "one day" and not "the first day." <Rf>

The only thing you need to add the text of the verse in the verses table is <not>N1</not>, when the bible is open in e-Sword moving the mouse over the N1 will cause the note to display in what is called a "Pop-up".

I previously posted all of the information on how to do this here:

#45916 Afrikaans 2020 translation

Posted by Tj Higgins on 15 February 2024 - 11:44 AM

Will the new (2020) translation of the Afrikaans Bible be made available soon?

It depends on what the copyright situation is with that translation, if it is under copyright then the copyright holder has to give permission for the module to be made.

#45893 Text Editor: text-format cloning ("paint brush" tool), or Paragraph...

Posted by Tj Higgins on 10 February 2024 - 08:29 PM

Hello,

I use the Editor quite a bit.  Is there any way to get functionality similar to the Microsoft programs that copy text format style with the "paint brush" tool?

Another option that would help me a lot is to have a Paragraph Styles (similar to Microsoft products) drop-down that you can select from a populated list of formatting styles (ex. Heading = Arial 14 pt Bold, indented  /  Body = Arial 12 pt / Bible verse = Verdana 12 pt, 2" left margin / etc.).

E-Sword is a great tool, and this is one of my only complaints with it.  I find the existing very time consuming and clunky when I am creating a lesson, as I teach from the Editor and I like it look nice (formatted).

If there's no way to do this within the program, or something similar, I'll post separately as a request for future update.

thanks!

Each of the three editors have a paragraph formatting button located on the toolbar just below the fonts drop down box, clicking this button will open a small box where you can find options for formatting paragraphs.

#45866 NEWS e-Sword updated the MODULE CONVERTER

Posted by Tj Higgins on 03 February 2024 - 07:14 PM

Dear Mr Higgins, have you tried this personally, during the year 2024? When I run the convert.exe wizard, after clearing the Security block using permissions, the "convert.exe" just disappears, and I cannot find the file in the folder in which the e-Sword files are stored. What is the name of the Conversion exe file after it has been loaded, please? If the user is running with e-Sword in another folder, how do you get the file to go to the other folder? The installer option to change the destination seems to have disappeared also.

I have the module converter installed on my PC in the following location Program Files (x86)/e-Sword

It installs as eSwordPCModuleconverter.exe if you sort your e-Sword folder by file type the module converter will be listed right below the e-Sword exe file.

It could be that the installer file has become corrupt I recommend downloading the convert.exe file again.

As for moving the file to another folder, the easiest way is to install it in the e-Sword folder and then copy and paste it to the other location.

I did a reinstall of the module converter earlier today and it worked just fine

#45837 Creating Bible Modules with Strong's Numbers

Posted by Tj Higgins on 24 January 2024 - 09:13 PM

Of all the tools available for the creation of e-Sword modules, there is one aspect that is lacking and that is the ability to create bible modules with Strong's Numbers.

e-Sword Tooltip NT does not have the function to add Strong's Number's with relative ease while it does provide the functionality to properly format Strong's Numbers. This particular function when used formats Strong's Numbers so that when an e-Sword user mouse over the number the Strong's number in a bible module, the Strong's information appears in a Pop-Up.

Formatting the Strong's Numbers is very important but first the numbers have to be added to the bible text which there is no simple easy to do, The only option in Tooltip is to use find and replace for each Strong's number. This means doing a find and replace such as replacing the word God with GodH430. using the find and replace option in tooltip looks like this:

Find What:
God

Replace With:
GodH430

The tooltip user would then click Replace All to had the Strong's Number to all instances of God.

There 8674 Strong's Number for Hebrew words and 5624 Strong's Numbers for Greek words in order to add all of the Strong's number to a bible text will require using the Find and Replace method 14298 times.

Cleary an easier and more efficient method can be created to accomplish this task thus allowing more bible translations to be available with Strong's Numbers.

The question is how to create away to accomplish this that will automate the task require just a few simple mouse clicks one thought I had was a macro to accomplish this task but I have looked at some Find and Replace macros that can be downloaded and I am not sure a macro will work.

I think more ideally some sort of Find and Replace tool that can do the following would be the best route:

Open the e-Sword module in RTF format then automatically go through the e-Sword module and do all the finding and replacing so that the module is populated with the Strong's Numbers.

The user would then save the RTF fille with new name so as not to overwrite the original file.

After this is complete the user will then open the new RTF file in Tooltip to properly format the Strong's Numbers for e-Sword use. Followed by generating the e-Sword module using Tooltip.

I have searched the web for such a find replace tool and come up empty, I think we have enough computer savvy people here could come together and make this happen.

Anyone interested?

Bugs Fixed in Version 14.7
  1. Fixed the Editor bugs:
    1. Find in Page should use Find and Replace if no split preview but both should use Find in Page if only Preview is visible.
    2. Find and Replace followed by autosave should not save the Editor search highlights.
  2. For non-Bible modules without entry and Navigation links option is unchecked the message of no entry is found no longer shows up.
  3. Search with Split view (Deluxe) first open should not be full preview without search parameters and results list pane so users will not be confused.

#45819 Main window - selected verse text in bold?

Posted by Tj Higgins on 19 January 2024 - 12:22 PM

I am wondering if I can make the entire text of a selected verse bold.

Currently when selected, only the book, chapter and verse is bold face.

It would make it easier for me to study and take notes on a specific verse if it were in bold face when selected.

This is how it currently displays...

Mat 5:8  Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Mat 5:9  Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Mat 5:10  Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

I would like it to display like this...

This would be for any version or translation. I really enjoy the KJV+ for my studies and having the selected verse in bold would be so helpful as I jump back and forth from the Study Notes Editor and Bibles.

Thanks

There is no way to place a verse in bold but you can use colored highlights for verses. When you highlight a verse with the mouse a small icon in the bible window becomes active this is the verse highlight tool. With these tool you can highlight a verse as if you were using a highlight marker.

e-Swords with a markup file labeled Markup.ovlx you can open this file by clicking Bible from the e-Sword menu and then Markup File from the Bible drop down menu. Clicking Markup File will open the Markup File sub-menu from which you can open the existing Markup File to save your highlights or create your markup file by selecting New. The Markup File is where all of your verse marking will be saved

#45778 Transferring ESword to a new computer

Posted by Tj Higgins on 10 January 2024 - 08:37 PM

I followed these directions but they did not work for me. I bought a new laptop and copied the files from my old laptop but my Study Notes are not there. The scriptures that I highlighted on my old laptop are highlighted on the new laptop but all the Study Notes are missing.

I installed version 13.0 on my new laptop. My old laptop has version 12.1. Would that matter?

Both laptops are running Windows 11.

I submitted a request for help a couple of days ago but have not received a reply.

I hope someone can help me soon!

Did you copy the notes from the e-Sword folder located in the Documents folder? This is where your journal, topic and study notes are saved to. The need to be copied to the same folder on the new computer
