#25344 Problem with www.biblesupport.com on iPad

Posted by Jogirl on 16 June 2015 - 04:39 PM

This is something I actually have never experienced on both my PC and my Tablet. Before responding to your post, I went online on my Tablet (as I was already online on my PC and on BibleSupport), and tested this website without any issues at all. It worked really fine. And because of that, the only thing I could think of that it really came down to a Browser issue, and not an issue with the site itself.

As I mentioned in my last response, I use Firefox as my Default browser on both PC and Tablet, and on my Tablet I have Firefox to load any website just as how Firefox for PC loads it and had no issues with it. Oh yeah, I nearly forgot, I also tested it on (and I really hate this one) IE (Internet Explorer) on  my PC without any issues, and also On Google Chrome on my Tablet. However, unlike Firefox on my Tablet, Google Chrome does not and cannot load the website as a Desktop Site, and so it came out distorted. And so with that, I really think it comes down to limitations of the Browser(s) one uses. And therefore it was for this reason I made that recommendation to ditch your iPad.

As a Software developer of sorts (that has to be good  ) I test stuff to make sure that it does what it claims it can do, and then to see if I can "break" it (take it to its extreme), and more importantly, to see how well it performs. This also goes with Web Browsers.

When it comes to Web Browser Software for Mobile devices, one will never get and have the same experience as working from a Desktop machine as web pages do not load the same if they have not been designed and developed for mobile devices, simply because the Web Browser for Mobile devices have not been designed for that end; hence that drastic recommendation to my previous reply to your post.

So, with all of that said, done and dusted, I trust that things are actually working well for you on your iPad.

Blessings,

PS The one thing you will notice, This website is not designed for Mobile Devices, and as such you will experience difficulties of loading it.

No difficulties loading it on the iPad, at all.  Much better than the desktop PC and laptop in terms of speed even with SSD drive.  Love the iPad-super fast!!  Website glitch was, again, not my iPad but the website itself.  That info. came to me via messaging from the administrator not by my own derivation.

#25339 Problem with www.biblesupport.com on iPad

A serious suggestion ... I genuinely recommend that  you ditch your iPad and get yourself a Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, install Firefox on it, and set it to Request Desktop Site. This works all the time for me on my tablet.

Now I know its not iOS, and that its Android, however, it beats iOS devices all the time, and Samsung stand by their products.

Blessings,

My honest answer to your kind suggestion to "ditch" my iPad is I have absolutely no reason to take such drastic action and am completely satisfied with my user experiences over the years.  I use e-swordHD and Goodreader apps all the time and love, love, love them!  The website glitch was a first for me and it was due to the website software being older and needing updating.  Not my problem at all.

#21985 Problem with Catena resource and Mark chapter 4

Posted by Jogirl on 02 September 2014 - 07:18 AM

In short, when using the Catena's commentary with Mark chapter four, I am noticing the Scripture cited in Catena is from Matthew four and so are all the comments from Matthew four. The error seems to be the entire chapter of Mark 4 not displaying the Scripture in Mark four.   I checked out an online version of the Catena and it is does refer and correctly cites the Scripture in Mark four.

#21155 e-Sword for iPad

Posted by Jogirl on 23 May 2014 - 07:56 AM

I have e-Sword HD.  How what are the steps to download the e-Sword version of College Press Commentaries to my Ipad?

It is quite easy since Josh already converted the files to ios format.  Just download the zipped file from the downloads area to your pc and extract the files.  Then, hookup your iPad to your pc via Usb cable and iTunes should come up on your pc and recognize your device. You can use iTunes file sharing to drag and drop each of the files for the College Press Commentaries package onto your iPad.  This article explains how file sharing works:   http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094.

Make sure you sync your iPad before you disconnect it from your pc.  Usually, you have to turn off your iPad and re-start it before the e-sword app recognizes the newly added files.  Open up e-sword app and check your commentary section for "College Press". It should be there!

Another way to get ios files onto your iPad is to use a free utility called iFunbox.  It appears to have a simpler user interface but you must have iTunes installed and up to date to use iFunbox.  FYI

#20170 How to download esword modules to iPad

Is it possible to make the module,'McClintock, John & Strong, James - Cyclopedia of Biblical, Theological and Ecclesiastical Literature (12 vols)' for esword hd?

Trevor,
I have converted a lot of modules from BibleSupport to ios format for the iPad without any problem.  McClintock's should convert, too.  Just follow the steps outlined in the posts above (a lot of helpful information with steps spelled out-see jwigginton & alex).  If you need help, continue to post your questions!  God Bless.

#20130 How to download esword modules to iPad

Sorry to be dense.  I'm new to Windows and new to e-sword.  I have it on my pc and my iPad. I would like to add a module from awakenedchurch to my ipad. I have tried installing the converter on my PC and can not find it!  I have looked in the e-sword folder and the only converter I find is to convert files from 8 to 9.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and again...sorry to be so dense!

This is the name of the file you are looking for:  e-SwordHDModuleConvert.exe

Here is the location of the file:  C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword.  You can navigate to the e-sword folder within the Program Files (x86) folder on your hard drive. Then select the file.  I created a shortcut to my desktop by right click on the file and Create Shortcut.  Then, you can run it from your desktop as you do other software.  Does this help?

#19097 E-Sword HD for iPad

Posted by Jogirl on 17 October 2013 - 09:52 PM

I have successfully converted all the modules, mostly commentary and a couple dictionary, I downloaded from BibleSupport to use in e-sword on my computer.  Any modules that are official e-sword modules, i.e. downloaded from e-sword.net, are locked and cannot be converted.

Do you think this is what you are experiencing or is it something else?

Great news on your success, BTW!

Jogirl,

Yes, I downloaded the converter but where do I find it? It wasn't on my desktop and I couldn't find it in e-sword anywhere.

The converter installed into your e-sword folder in Program Files.  Here is what I wrote after I first installed it and used it:

"A couple of tips. Note, I am using Windows 7.
1.  After I installed the conversion utility, I found it in the E-sword directory (folder). Installing it did not create a shortcup on my desktop to run it.  So,  I made a shortcut on my desktop so that I could run it more easily.
2. After I converted my first commentary module successfully, I knew the file name with the extension *.cmti.  However, I had to search my c: drive to find the file.  It  was here:
C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword."

#19055 NET Bible and Notes for e-sword

Posted by Jogirl on 14 October 2013 - 03:32 AM

I know that years ago this resource was available for e-sword in both a free and limited version and also as a premium module.  Or, that is what I recall.  Having searched the internet for one for e-sword today, I find nothing.  Can anyone please comment?

The good news is that it has its own iPad app and it is free.

#18926 Issues with conversion to ios format for iPad app

Posted by Jogirl on 02 October 2013 - 07:16 AM

I just got confirmation of Rick - there was a bug in the converter.  There is a new converter, version 1.1.2.  BH

Yes, I heard the same thing.  I installed the updated converter and now I am able to convert Abbott-Smith and have it work within the iPad app.  A big thanks to Rick Meyers for making this available to iPad users.

EDIT:  why is the Abbott Smith lexicon important to me?  Let me give you a quote from the Let's Read Greek website:
"The 2nd edition of Abbott-Smith's famous A Manual Greek Lexicon of the New Testament was the standard English lexicon of the NT until the translation of Bauer's lexicon."  So to me it is a great addition to Strong's, Thayer's, the Wordstudy dictionary.  Plus, it interacts with the LXX.

#18777 How to download esword modules to iPad

It works very well!!!

A couple of tips that would have helped me.

C:\Users\your name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword.

Hope this saves others some time and work.  BTW, file sharing is easy on the iPad and the commentaries look great!!!  Really, there is no good reason that anyone cannot use what Rick has outlined in the FAQ to get their modules onto their iPad and working in the e-sword app.

#18758 Pulpit Commentary for iPad

Posted by Jogirl on 27 September 2013 - 12:56 PM

Will The Pulpit Cmmentary for iPad be made availible .... Thanks

Rick Meyer issued an update to the e-sword app which includes the Pulpit commentary!   Additionally, he stated that file sharing will now work and users will be able to convert modules for use on the ipad app.  More details on how to do that are forthcoming.  FYI
