Dear all,
I am looking for E-Sword resources in French. Our seminary donates E-Sword with some of the more academic resources (K&D, Robertson, to name a few) to all our students. We are planning to start a French programme next year. So we would like to give our students E-Sword in French as well. Can someone help me? What is available and where can I get it?

I am looking for E-Sword resources in French.

e-sword@yahoogroupes.fr is a French language support list for e-Sword.
Since 2003, only 17 messages have been posted to it.

http://www.e-sword.fr is a French language blog about e-Sword.
( http://e-sword.fr is a page of advertising.)

My guestimate is that there around 20 French language resources for e-Sword 9.x. Not all of them can be legally distributed in, or from the United States.

Frank, have you come across any good, modern French commentaries? Something that's halfway between scholarly and practical? I'm guessing there's not much for e-sword. (I searched the site and forums for stuff, but didn't really find anything. I also checked on the link Jonathon provided, but couldn't find much there either.) I'm just trying to do more of my daily activities in French so I maximize my exposure. If not, no worries, I'll also ask on some French forums once I get around to searching for them. Thanks. :)

Wow -- I see there have been no replies to this in five years. Sad!  I am also interested in developing the French version of e-Sword. There are clear things we can do and commentaries that are ready to upload.  I am speaking of two in particular: the Matthew Henry commentary has already been translated into French and is available online via Online BIble. The Albert Barnes commentary was translated into French in the 19th century, but it was only the New Testament and that only through 2 Corinthians. But there is not much left to finish.  The competition here is OnLine Bible, which has a few (very few) resources in French. Also, OLB charges for many of its modules, and their "Premium" version requires payment of $36 a year. Obviously, e-Sword has them beat there.  But OLB does have one good commentary in French: Matthew Henry. It does not have Albert Barnes. Matthew Henry is copyright free, however, and can be imported.  I have the Albert Barnes commentary in my computer but the scan was poorly done and it needs to be edited and formatted. I woudl appreciate ANY and all help with this project. I think it is worth doing and doing well. Please contact me if you can help in any way. I expecially need help in editing the French scans, and secondly, in formatting the text for importation into e-Sword. Write me please if you can help with this French version of e-Sword. God bless.

Here are the resources I have found in French: SOFTWARE: Logos (French version), Online BIble, and e-Sword.  Each has its advantages and disadvantages. The Logos program costs $194 (not that bad, considering they charge a lot more for the English version), but it is the most expensive of the three programs. It only has 2 commentaries (Chercheur, and Contemporain) both of which are either one-volume or two-volume commentaries, which is to say, they don't have a lot of commentary, and are far from a verse-by-verse commentary like Matthew Henry, Albert Barnes, Jamieson Fausset Brown, or Adam Clarke).  Also, like Logos in general this program will undoubtedly be slow.  2) Online Bible is in a difficult situation. Theiir french distributor (Editions Cle) has decided to abandon it in favor of Logos, and the Dutch programmers of OLB are trying to recreate it without their former French partners. Their version, nonetheless, does have Matthew Henry, and the base program is free.  Other modules will cost you but not that much.  The big problem I have with OLB is that it is clunky (the interface) and secondly to get the premium version you have to pay $36 a year forever.  3) E-Sword has a French interface now, and three French Bibles. It has versions for Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone/iPad. It does not yet have any commentaries in French. However, Albert Barnes and Matthew Henry are copyright free and can be added. It is worth the investment as it is a free program and well done. I would apprecaite any help with converting these commentaries into e-Sword format!

I have nearly finished creating a module for the FRENCH Bible ' Parole Vivante -Alfred Kuen'

I also plan to create modules for the following Bibles : Francais Courant/ Nouvelle Francais Courant/ Bible Du Semeur/ Parole de Vie

all for my private use. I don't know if I have the right to post them here coz of copyright issues etc.

Side note: I take less than  1.5 months to convert NT and 4 months for a Full Bible ( on a prt time basis)

If other Bibles to convert, I could do them privately bar a small fee for you :)

Cheers.

Joe
