Since the release of e-Sword 11.0, I have been search for a way to make HTML modules.  I am unclear as to what the schema must look like and how to compile this into a SQLite database.  I am a software developer (C#, SQL Server, Web development, Enterprise development etc.) and would like to create modules from content that I already have from web pages and from data stored in a SQL Server database.

 

Is there a schema for the modules, i.e. how to link to other resources within e-Sword?  Or is there a tool that already exists to make HTML modules?

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Technical info welcome!

I wonder also, if iFrames will work withing .refi or .cmti modules.

I it does I suppose you could have external .txt or .rtf files appear

within an iFrame either in Verse Notes, Chapter Notes and/or 

Book Notes in .cmti (Commentary Modules).  If that be the case,

then shouldn't it also work in .refi (HD) Reference modules.  If it

works for these type of modules, will it also work in .bbli (Bible) modules??

Tooltip has generated HTML since just after e-Sword for iOS devices came out. 

 

iFrames - you don't have an active browser behind the HTML documents in e-Sword.  Just a static HTML document display.

Was wondering if you could create a module using iFrames that would be used to load .txt or .rtf files that are located in the e-sword subdirectory. No HTML files. Maybe like having a menu in a table alongside an iFrame I. Either a verse note or chapter note in a .cmti commentary file. My idea is a menu for a particular verse note that would allow the user to view in the iFrame different commentator's notes for a particular verse note or chapter note.

Wonder why that is? I guess it would be too difficult to add full HTML 5 compatibility to e-sword. But then, I know just know just enough about programming to be dangerous.

e-Sword is a display engine, not a web browswer.  There is no Java Scripting engine, no major processing of HTML in the program.  Do you want to duplicate Chrome/Firefix/Edge in e-Sword?  e-Sword displays static HTML.  What e-Sword does, it does well.

Just to add to what Brent responded to you.

 

e-Sword for PC, iOS (which included both iPad and iPhone), and macOS are all DataBase Readers which read SQLite database files. Each entry in a Database file is a single record of data. For instance Gen 1:! is one record of data, Gen 1:2 is another record of data and etc. The same principle works with Dictionary, Commentary, and etc Database files.

 

So when it comes to e-Sword reading these files, the only thing that e-Sword can do is just read and display the static text and the formatting code  in either HTML or RTF, and that is about as much as it can and will do. The text that one can see in e-Sword, is displayed in a Textbox that ordinary word processors, such as MS Word, WordPerfect, and etc use.

 

So, when it comes to displaying full HTML capabilities... trying to do it in a database file, and then non web browser text boxes is about possible as hens having teeth. And so with that, this is the reason why e-Sword, or any other Database reader type program is about as useful as a hip-pocket on a t-shirt (no disparagement intended) when it comes to what you thought could be done.

 

In reference to T4, this program has the ability of spitting out  (exporting) resource files for e-Sword as SQLite database files for PC, iOS, and Mac devices (which, by the way, iOS and Mac uses the same resource format).

 

Trust this helps you in understanding why software like e-Sword has it's limitations
