Is there a way to do a *compound* Extended Commentary Search (i.e. search all the commentaries at one time) with the following conditions:

"Deu_12:14" (exactly as shown to the left minus the parenthesis, so that this exact verse reference will be found, but not just parts, like "12:14" or "Deu")

SEARCH FOR ALL OF THE WORDS

"Elijah" (so that only notes containing both (exactly) "Deu_12:14" and "Elijah" will be found?

Regular expressions (REGEX) is supported in the PC version of e-Sword (am not sure about the Mac version).

It is not supported in the HD and LT editions.

Use Regular expressions (REGEX) search instead of "all of the words" search and type:

(Deu 12:14).+Elijah|(Elijah).+Deu 12:14

See e-Sword User’s Guide Revision: 8/1/2014

The results in my search are:

Leviticus Cambridge

Deuteronomy Cambridge

Deuteronomy 12:2-7 Cambridge

2 Samuel 24:1-25 Pulpit

2 Chronicles 7:1-22 Pulpit

Perfect.  Thank you so much.

(By the way, I believe you forgot the underscore.  It should be this...

(Deu_12:14).+Elijah|(Elijah).+Deu_12:14

Instead of...

(Deu 12:14).+Elijah|(Elijah).+Deu 12:14

Thank you again!

Isn't the "." after (Deu_12:14) and (Elijah) acting as a wild card? Why is it needed?

Page 243:

The search finds “Jesus” and then skips one or more characters in search of “Peter”. The dot “.” represents any character. The “+” sign quantifies the dot wildcard character to unlimited. The pipe “|” sign says “or”. The flip side of this pattern searches for “Peter” then “Jesus”. The first side of our pattern would only find “Jesus” then “Peter”.

Oh, for pete's sake. How'd I miss that? After all the time I've spent in the manual!

Thanks much!
