Everyone,

Unfortunately, Brent passed away a few days ago. He was an anesthesiologist in California, a husband, a father of two sons, a hobbyist programmer who wrote a number of tools for e-Sword, and an avid student of the Bible.

He was always reflecting on the Bible and refining what he believed. I always admired how he wasn't a "insert denomination name here" because of the way he was raised. He went his own way trying to arrive at the truth of biblical interpretation. That's so rare these days. I believe that's why he liked Bible study software like e-Sword--because it aided in his relentless study.

My original post (see first message in this thread) tries to summarize what he meant to our community!

Josh

Thanks for posting this Josh.

I had the privilege of working with Brent for a solid 3 months as he was rushing to get T4 updated with the latest control version(before he became too ill). Also rewriting all the routines to use a different SQlite as per e-Sword. This was achieved just in time at the end of November 2019. There were some outstanding things to fix.... One that might cause issue issue is that when building a .bblx Bible. For the final verse in the file you have to put a space and return on the next line, otherwise it will not find that last verse.

I will close out with one of Brent's favoured quotes from a book, "The Desire of Ages", page, 787, by Ellen White is "to the believer, death is but a small matter".

Jon

Hi Josh,

I totally concur with Jon.

Although I've not known Brent personally, yet one could really get a really sense of his heart, and to see where he was in Christ. Moreover, there seemed to be a kindness and benevolence which shone out of him. That I've attributed to his steadfast faith in Christ.

One of the things that amazed me about Brent was his steadfast trust in God despite the illness he suffered, and just kept on believing God, and holding fast to Him.

He will be and is sorely missed.

Blessings,

Thank you for posting this tribute to Brent Hildebrand. We have the task ahead of us to be there, waiting to meet him, when the resurrection of the dead occurs. Till then - let us help one another, and provide support so that more people will be able to understand the Holy Bible more correctly, and to implement what we learn in our own character development. Thanks for the helpful information and links. Rest till we meet together, Brent - we miss you.

Rest in His arms Brent. I did not get a chance to personally thank you for your tremendous work.

I believe we will all see you soon, and then I can shake your hand. :)

unfortunately i came to know about this very lately. my interaction with brent has been great and i never saw such humble person who has great patience to hear and try to implement our requests about tool tip. he is always responds in short amount of time. without his tool, many of our work here could have been paralyzed. His tool was a great value add, backbone of this website. directly or indirectly he blessed thousands around the world with the help of his tool. his death is great loss for our community. I am sure he was greatly rewarded by GOD for all the contribution he has done for advancing HIS Kingdom. it was great achievement for a person from medical background, developing a software tool like this. he is inspiration to anyone who wish to be used by GOD.

The first goal in life is to make ourselves acceptable to the LORD
