I will pray for your continued progress. Merry Christmas!

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

2 months ago, my life expectancy appeared to be very short.  Truth is, none of us know if we will be here tomorrow.  But we know whom we can trust.

To the believer, death is but a small matter. Christ speaks of it as if it were of little moment. "If a man keep My saying, he shall never see death," "he shall never taste of death." To the Christian, death is but a sleep, a moment of silence and darkness. The life is hid with Christ in God, and "when Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with Him in glory."

John 8:51-52

(51) Truly, truly, I say to you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

(52) Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that you have a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and you say, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

Colossians 3:4

When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

Something I forgot to put in my last reply, and thought it would be great to add it now before totally forgetting.

The one thing about Lam 3:22-23 was that it was written at a time of Israel's captivity. That was at a time when everything seemed to have gone totally pearshaped. If anything that could have gone bad, it went bad for the Jews. Yet despite all of that, Jeremiah could actually say, "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness" (Lam 3:22-23 RSV) despite the fact that they were in a not so good place. And that's putting it mildly, and is a total understatement.

If anything this really shows us, is that irrespective of what might come against us, God is always good. And not only that, God gets gooderer and gooderer every day.

Blessings,

Update - after having a nearly miraculous reversal in 25+ distinct tumor metastatic lesions and nearly resolution of all the bone pain, 2 more tumors have now appeared, these unfortunately are in the brain.  Further work on e-Sword Tooltip Tool and e-Sword HotKey will probably be greatly curtailed.  I had hoped to add some new features and building techniques but typing has become a challenge.  Mean survival after brain mets varies, but mean survival 6-10 months is one number in the literature. It could go on for several years, but symptoms don't look promising.  Hopefully someone will step forward and work on a new tool for e-Sword.

I rest in the True GOOD NEWS that God is not a God of force, violence, coercion or retribution.  There is no "heavenly Auschwitz."   Satan is the author of sin and all its results.  Sin kills.

For a graduate level course on the Book of Revelation by my friend Sigve Tonstad, MD, PhD, fellow physician, and who is also a New Testament scholar with a PhD from the University of Saint Andrews on the Book of Revelation, see:,  Revelation: Vision of Healing

His doctoral thesis resulted in the the following book:

"Saving God's Reputation: The Theological Function of Pistis Iesou in the Comic Narratives of Revelation".

He is also author of the book, "God of Sense and Traditions of Non-Sense", plus several others.  He has an up coming commentary on the Book of Revelation.

My thoughts for today:

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD has spoken it.

Nahum 1:9 What do you imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time.

Romans 6:21 What fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

1 Corinthians 15:55-56 O death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory? (56) The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.

Revelation 6:8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given to them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

Revelation 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

I look forward to the end of the conflict!

Brent

I look forward to the day when we will walk the hallways of Glory together. No more sorrow or pain just the joy of the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ.

Your contribution to E-Sword and the spread of God’s word has not been fully measured. I am sure that it’s impact will be felt for many years to come. Thank-you and God Bless. I will be praying for you and your loved ones.

Brent,

You will remain in my prayers. May God give you comfort and healing.

Everyone,

Unfortunately, Brent passed away a few days ago. He was an anesthesiologist in California, a husband, a father of two sons, a hobbyist programmer who wrote a number of tools for e-Sword, and an avid student of the Bible.

He was always reflecting on the Bible and refining what he believed. I always admired how he wasn't a "insert denomination name here" because of the way he was raised. He went his own way trying to arrive at the truth of biblical interpretation. That's so rare these days. I believe that's why he liked Bible study software like e-Sword--because it aided in his relentless study.

My original post (see first message in this thread) tries to summarize what he meant to our community!

Thanks for posting this Josh.

I had the privilege of working with Brent for a solid 3 months as he was rushing to get T4 updated with the latest control version(before he became too ill). Also rewriting all the routines to use a different SQlite as per e-Sword. This was achieved just in time at the end of November 2019. There were some outstanding things to fix.... One that might cause issue issue is that when building a .bblx Bible. For the final verse in the file you have to put a space and return on the next line, otherwise it will not find that last verse.

I will close out with one of Brent's favoured quotes from a book, "The Desire of Ages", page, 787, by Ellen White is "to the believer, death is but a small matter".

Jon
