Since the release of e-Sword version 9 (and I'm busting to see what version 10 enhancements are like when it will be released :) ) the changes that have taken place with this program has been incredible. Lots of things have been changed in e-Sword, and perhaps one of the unnoticed changes was the ability to tab the views (windows).

Having the drag and drop feature to change the views around was great, and then came the ability to hide the views and even have them floating was also great. But I reckon that the tabbing of e-Swords views is the one that is the most understated, and yet one of the best enhancements that has been added.

This enhancement is real definite solution when having to work from a small monitor, such as a small Laptop with a 12" or 14" screen. It makes navigation between views, whilst having more than 1 view (window) open, much more simpler. And I tend to think that this is perhaps better than trying to work off from a floating view. Moreover, I think this is perhaps a solution for those who have quite a considerable amount of Bible, Commentary or Dictionary tabs to contend with that would shrink the text area of either view.

Whatever the reason you may use it for, I think this is one positive feature for e-Sword. But the perhaps the best reason is that there are those who are just sooo OCD about having tabbed Views on their program

It has some pretty significant enhancements.

Most existing resources will be usable with e-Sword 10, but resources constructed specifically for e-Sword 10.x, will not be usable by e-Sword 9.x. There are some resources whose construction I would advise putting off until e-Sword 10.0 is released.

are like when it will be released :)

I'm hoping to finish the technical documentation for e-Sword 9.x that I'm writing, before e-Sword 10.x is released.

Think tablet. 7 Inch touch screen. However, it also has advantages when used on a 65 inch screen.

Does this mean that there will be some of the existing 9X modules that will not work with 10X, and will those that won't work disappear when you upgrade?

I don't believe any will disappear. Some with external links may not link properly. We'll have to see the final result.

I'm not privy to all of the changes, or plans that Rick has made.

I don't know if e-Sword 10.0 will explicitly break any existing resources.

There are several resources, features, components, and functions that I've been expecting Rick to include in e-Sword, for the last three or four year. Things that haven't yet been included in e-Sword. Whether or not they will be included in e-Sword 10.0, I don't know. If so, then some resources will be broken.

I don't know if Rick is going to change topical files, so that all existing topical files are "broken", or if he is adding a new component, that would provide "better" functionality, for the type of resource that people are providing as topical files. Either way, e-Sword 10.0 will offer either a new way to create topical files, or create something that is functionally equivalent, but more suitable.

One change, that I don't know if I can talk about or not, will trigger reconstruction of a number (call it between ten and twenty percent) of currently available resources, to improve them. (This change makes it much easier for me to properly construct a resource I've been planning to do.)

will those that won't work disappear when you upgrade?

I don't think that the topical file component is going away. It was created as a "scratch pad". It wasn't designed for _The Early Church Fathers_. So those resources are safe.

I had the impression that Rick was going to change the database table for one component. I don't remember which component it was. In looking at the database tables of the different components, only one component --- Bible Reading Plans --- might be enhanced by the (¿proposed?) change.

I do know that e-Sword 10.0 breaks at least one utility program for e-Sword that I've written.
