Hello.

I recently upgraded to E-sword 11.x

is there a way to change the default bible so that it comes up with The one I want so I do not have to remember to change it all the time?

Hi Denis,

OK, let me try to resolve your problem. Dunno if I'll get this right.

Firstly, from what I can see in e-Sword's Bible search engine, nothing has changed in the interface. It looks exactly the same as it has done for donkey years.

And the new search function defaults to the KJVCNT bible I tried the little light blue gear to see if it would let me set a default bible but no.

Firstly, the reason why it defaults to a particular version, including the one you mentioned, is because that is the on that is currently active on you Bible Tabs, and the search engine will by default search the active translation. If you want by default just search the KJV, or any other translation, simply ensure that you have that translation activated by clicking on its tab in the Bible Window.

With that said, I've also done a test, and here is the result:

  • Active/Default translation - the NKJV
  • Selected the RSV in the Bible dropdown combobox in the Bible search engine
  • For the search parameters, selected Romans to Colossians.
  • Searched the word, grace.
  • Placed the mouse over Rom 1:5, which showed the active NKJV translation.

Result of the search came out with the RSV translation despite the active translation being the NKJV. See attached screenshot.

Trust this help you.

My highlighted version is always the KJV but the search function always comes up KJVCNT and many times the words I type into the search field not get a result until I switch bibles using the drop-down menu

This is not the case with E-sword 7.5 which I also still use, it always defaults to the KJV and is quite different from the new 11.x version I installed

I moved my E-sword 7.5 directory from Program files x86 then did a new install of 11.x now I just swap e-sword folders in and of program files x86 when I want to use one or the other.

Having downloaded and installed or converted 107 English Bibles I have not swapped out E-sword in a while now.

Hi Denis,

Then I don't know what is causing this to happen as I can't replicate your problem.  That said, if you can do a screenshot of your search dialog by hitting the PrtScn (Print Screen) key on your keyboard, and save it to your hard drive and then upload to here, so I can see what is happening, then I may be able to help you further.

Blessings,

The only solution I have found to this problem which I had back in 2017 and still have today is to delete the KJVCNT file ie King James Bible, Clarified NT (KJC) (1998) bblx
