Is it possible to change the formatting for bullets and numbering?  E-sword gives a wide space between the bullet or number and the text.  Is it possible to change this so they are closer together?

Yes you can. Simply add tab markers (or what ever they are called) in ruler of the editor you are using. View attached screenshot to see what I'm babbling on about.

 

Note where I place those markers, and note changes in the tab spacing.
