I'm new to e-Sword and also to this support group and I've tried downloading a few things but they're file extensions are for PC and I'm using a Mac Pro desktop. Is there any way to download the Lewis Sperry Chafer Collection without using crossover?

I noticed the Apple Converter located on this page but I don't know that would convert a PC extension to Mac or not?

Also there wouldn't be by any chance a Mac download section?

Hello and Welcome,

First yes the converter will convert files from PC to MAC format.

As for downloading from files from this site, files that will work with E-Sword X have file extensions that end in the letter "i"

Bible Modules have the file extension bbli
Dictionary Modules have the file extension dcti
Commentary Modules have the file extension cmti

There are other file formats for E-Sword X as well such topi for topic files, refi for reference files, etc

There is however no designated Mac download area per say on this site

That's great, I'll have to try that converter later. Thank you!

A designated Mac download area wouldn't be a bad idea.

The modules with file extensions that end in the letter "i" are also usable in E-Sword 11 for Windows so they are grouped with all of the other modules on this site. However I agree that at the very least there should be better information on each modules pages as to which versions of e-sword the modules work with.

It seems like you don't have a Windows PC, Laptop, or a Surface Pro device. So with that, let me suggest one of the following ideas:

  • Buy either a Windows PC, Laptop or Surface Pro.
  • Use a friend's PC, Laptop or Surface Pro device in where you then can convert any resource you wish for your e-Sword X.
  • Make a request for that resource you wish for your platform of e-Sword.
  • If you know someone in your church who uses e-Sword on a Windows PC, ask him/her to convert the file for you.
  • Finally, you can  download and use Crossover or some other WINE product for your macOS, and run the converter using that tool.

There are many other work arounds, which are too numerous for me to mention, one can use. That said, the above list is about the best I could come up with from the top of my head. Others may be able to add a few more suggestions that will help you to get what you want.

Blessings,

I have recently started using a Mac again (I used to have a PowerMac and now have an older MacPro) and really liked eSword HD on my iPad so I am playing with the Mac version of eSword X.

I do windows two ways from my Mac.

1) I remote into my Windows machine using TeamViewer.

2) I run Windows in a VM using Parallels.

From trying to use another one of my Bible programs on the Mac by employing WINE/CrossOver I would suggest avoiding that route. I would recommend Parallels and a VM (Virtual Machine) for running the occasional Windows App. e-Sword actually works well this way.

Anyhow.... I had the Windows resource here and downloaded the new version of the convertor for my windows machine.

I converted each of the resources found in the Lewis Sperry Chafer Collection for you.

I have attached a ZIP file of the resources here. If Josh wishes to do so he can add it to the download area for the collection.

Just a quick note... VrtualBox by Oracle is a free alternative to running a Virtual Machine on Mac. Works great with e-Sword.

Blessings...
