Hi Everyone, and God Bless:

I just downloaded the new E-sword and set up a reading plan.  I clicked the box which says 'Show at Startup'.

Unfortunately, when I started up the progamme again, the reading  plan didn't start automatically.  I thought that, because I have the hint dialogue box open at the start as well, it might be preventing the reading plan from starting.  But that doesn't appear to be the issue.  I started E-sword after shutting down the computer, but the plan didn't start up at the beginning.

Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thank you,

Randy

The bible reading plan will only the first time you start e-Sword each day, it will not appear if you start e-Sword multiple times a day.

e-Sword has a comprehensive users manual that you can access by clicking help from the menu across the top of e-Sword, This will open e-Sword's help drop down menu, from this menu select the first option labeled "Contents" and the user manual will open in Adobe Acrobat. The reason for this that the users manual is in pdf format

Hi TJ, thank you for answering so quickly.

I opened E-sword this morning, after the computer had been off for the night, and the reading plan didn't come up. I set up the plan yesterday before midnight local time.  But you bring up an interesting point.  I'll wait and see if it opens tomorrow.  It might have been after midnight on my computer's clock.

Thanks for the heads up,

God Bless,

Randy

Hey, and God Bless:

Thanks Tj, that did the trick.  I reset my computer's clock to a time in the future and opened E-Sword.  The reading came up at the beginning.

Thanks you,

Randy

Hi Randy,

Just had a thought. If you wish to use your reading plan more than once a day, there is nothing to stop you from doing that. With that said, if you were to do that, I don't know if it would affect the timing of e-Sword automatically opening up the reading plan at first instance each day. I think this would be something interesting to find out, or to know.

This, by the way, is just my techno geeky thingy bit curiosity coming out.

Blessings,

Hey AP:

That's an interesting question.  I checked the reading plan in the middle of the day already.  I'll try it a few more times this evening and see what happens tomorrow morning when I open E-sword.

Techno geeky thingies are so much fun to ponder.

God Bless,

Randy

Hey AP, blessings:

I accessed the reading plan a few times yesterday.  This morning when I opened E-sword, the plan came up and smiled and was ready for me to continue my journey through the Gospel of John.  So that works.

I have one remaining question though.  I advanced the computer's clock a few days, to check if the issue was that it had already been auto-opened for the day.  I have since returned the clock to the correct day; I am wondering however, if the reading plan will still auto-open when we actually get to the future date I chose.  Does it remember the days in which it has been auto-opened?

Then I thought I could try putting in a date it was already auto-opened, and see if it will still open.

I put in a few stale dates and found something interesting.  I can go back and open the reading plan if I choose days before the programme was installed.  But if I choose a day after the programme was installed, it won't auto-open, if it has already been opened.  Unfortunately, I don't have a day when it wasn't auto-opened to use as an example.

That's it so far.

Thank you father for allowing us to be curious and maybe a bit obsessive:  lol.

God Bless,

Randy

Hey All, and God Bless:

I finally found the manuals (yeah!) and found where it says you can only auto-open the reading once a day.  So, we have it in writing:  hehe.

I was however unable to find an answer to a question.  I experimented with making plans and found that I couldn't make a plan where I can read from two books in the same plan without reading through one first and then reading the second one.  If I wanted to read from both Psalms and John on the same day, I would have to read all of Psalms and then then read through John.  Would we have to make two reading plans:  one for each?

Is there a way to read from more then one book on the same day, in the same reading plan?

God Bless,

Randy

With regard to what Higgsy shared, there really is a much faster and simpler method to creating a Bible reading plan. And that method is within e-Sword. Watch the video below to see just how this can be accomplished.

To get the best view, click the "Full screen" button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Trust that you found this video helpful.
