Start eSword and wait until it has gone past the splash screen and is ready to use.

Start "Task Manager" by either right-clicking the 'Start' button, a blank area on your Task Bar, or ask Cortana.

When Task Manager opens you will see eSword listed. Right-click on eSword and choose "Go to details". The window for Task Manager will change and again you will see eSword.

Once more, right-click on eSword and then choose "Set priority", which in turn will give you five options.Choose "High" and then go back to the eSword program to check on its performance. Windows will tell you in a little dialogue box about the possibility of instability, etc, but I've never had an issue. Besides, when you close eSword and run it again it's reverted to normal performance levels.

I've even run it on "Real. time" when I've had no other programs running and didn't have any issues. Try it on other programs that are a little on the slow side.

Most of the things you list are basically down to two things which affects performance:

  1. Software
  2. Hardware.

Speed is affected by RAM and CPU or APU. Its also affected the total number of data it has to load. If you have only, say, 6 Bible translations, 4 Dictionaries, 4 Commentaries, and nothing much else beyond that, and have 4GB of RAM, with the latest AMD or Intel Quad Core CPU/APU, then loading time should be really fast.

But if you're like me... 16 Gigs of RAM, AMD A8-6600K APU, loading about 4 Gigs of data (files), well, e-Sword takes about 3 - 5 seconds to load. I'm thinking of banging on 64GB of RAM on my next machine. Just because I want to, so I can have heaps more resources for e-Sword to load. Woo!!!

Then other factors come into it as well, i.e., garbage on the HDD/SSD, fragmented files, bloated Registry and etc. All of these factors will affect the performance of e-Sword (as well as any other program).

Blessings,
