I know I've been told this before, but I just can't remember how to do it...I want to search within dictionaries or commentaries for all topics which mark a specific Bible reference.  For example, let's say I'd like to know all the articles in Nave's which refer to Psalm 103:14.  If I search Nave's for "Psalm 103:14" I get results for every topic which references Psalms, or 103, or 14.

Nave is a bad example because it is only a "name concordance".
The only names in Psa 103 are David, Moses, Israel, angels, Heaven(s) and LORD(JeHoVaH).
But Psa 103:14 has no names but "He" is the LORD(JeHoVaH).
For dictionaries can you look by keyword or Strong number or other codes; except with a concordance.
Use another concordance and do a dictionary search.

Commentaries are made to look by Book, Chapter or Verse (this are the B C V icons).
Be sure that chain icon near the B icon is turned on for active verse. (this is to synchronize the active commentary verse).

try doing a regex search for "Psa\_103\:14"

This will work because you are telling the system to treat "_" and ":" as a characters to include in the search.

Also note that "Most likely" a reference in the module will be tool-tipped so use its 3 letter abbreviation and not its full name.

We can push this idea a little further.

If I wanted to search for John 1:1 and tried the above, not only would I get a hit for John 1:1 but also verses 11-19.

(I used "Joh\_1\:1" as my search)

But if I modify my search like this "Joh\_1\:1[^0-9]"

the search will now disallow any numbers following the "1".

You could go even further and not allow any hyphenated references. So yes show Joh_1:1 and no do not show Joh_1:1-2.

"Joh\_1\:1[^0-9\-]"

Have a great Lords Day this weekend!

One last thing. I noticed that there were some references that did not get tool-tipped in Naves because of a missing Under_Score mark.

to fix that modify the search string thus.

Gen[\_ ]27\:

While it is kind of hard to tell, there is a space after the underscore inside the square brackets.

See the screen shot. The search found Gen_27:1-4 (there is an underscore)  and Gen 27:22-40 (no underscore).

the original search in Psalm then could be

Psa[\_ ]103\:14[^0-9]

or

Psa[\_ ]103\:14

since there are really not too many places where you would have to worry about a verse number over 100! :D

This will now include any references with no underscore but still be the right verse.

Looks like it's time to learn regular expressions!  Thanks, all!

In the e-Sword User Guide, Chapter 22 (the last chapter) is completely dedicated to Regular Expressions.

To access your e-Sword User Guide, simply press the F1 key on your keyboard, or simply click Contents... in the Help menu.
