Good Lords day all,

I've been using e-Sword a long time. This morning when I opened the program to study I got this message....

"e-Sword has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

The program opens and a few seconds later I get the error message.

This is what I already tried.......

1. Rebooted, re-started, same result.

2. Downloaded new 10.4, installed over old, same results.

3. Removed the e-Sword program from computer, rebooted, install current version, same results.

I switched to Win10 a couple months ago and have not install anything new.

I hope y'all getting ready for church, i'll look back at this later. God bless.

Alan

I'm not sure if this works:

Use Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\VB and VBA Program Settings\e-Sword\Settings
dubble-click on (Default) and set the data on 1

Thanks K, but that did not work. Here is what I did to make it work. On the shortcut program icon I right clicked, then under compatibility I tried Win8 then Win7 and finally XP pk3. (My original op system) That worked. I don't know why but it did.

Thanks again, Alan.

Glad you got it sorted but I would replace step #3 in your original post next time anything weird like this happens in [any] piece of software, then add Steps 4 and 5. IMPORTANT ADDENDUM: Be sure to backup all your personal notes, personal journal, and personal topics first, along with any paid or premium Bible, commentary, and dictionary modules!

3. Downloaded Revo Uninstaller Freeware from http://www.revounins...e_download.html (Be sure to scroll to the [Freeware] download! You don't need the paid version!) and used it to remove e-Sword. Did the [complete] Revo uninstall, checking every option box and removing [all] traces of the original program. Notice when you do this how much garbage Windoze's "Uninstall" leaves behind! Personally, I try to ignore their "Uninstall" and use Revo anytime I remove a piece of software, whether permanently or to prepare for a RE-install such as in this case, figuring it has to help to conserve disk space.

4. Downloaded new 10.4 and reinstalled.

5. Restored all personal work and paid modules that were backed up earlier to their respective folders.

This is happening to both my e-Sword programs on my home and office computers.  I think the problem came after my AVG Antivirus Free required a restart after an update.

I can get my office e-Sword to work correctly by right-clicking on the icon (each time) and choosing "Run as Administrator."  (I'm running Windows 10 on each device.)

It might also be the result of a recent Windows update, I had a similar issue with Internet Explorer after a Windows update. The solution that worked for me was to do a system restore to a point before the problematic Windows update.
