Amos 7:1 Coverdale

Help us out. e-Sword modules are merely Sqlite databases.

Open the e-Sword module and make a note of the database structure. Locate the verses that need updating. After making the changes, re-upload the database/module here or email it to me and I'll update the download.

The ? [question mark] in the Coverdale e-Sword module is supposed to be two of the old English letter ∫. This letter represents the "sh" sound.

In the 1535 Coverdale Bible, though a bit fanciful, defiantly seems to have two ∫, spelled - gre∫∫hoppers (http://www.bibles-on...tament/30-Amos/);

It would seem that the early versions used two ∫ and used an e to make the a sound, then latter on they started using only one ∫ while still using the e to make the a sound. Then They began using an a to make the a sound. But when the king Iames version came out they, while using the a to make the a sound, reverted back to using two ∫ (and all so added an extra e after the ∫∫.

If you can not find this letter in your computer under Insert-symbles, then just copy them from here and past ‘em into the e-Sword Coverdale module.

If you look closely at the Name of our Lord The Anointed One you will find that these older versions used the ∫ for the “sh” sound. The 1535 Coverdale Bible in Matthew chapter one verse one spells this Name as Ie∫us. Being we know that even the “J”, back in those days, was only a fancy capital “I” the name is pronounced in these versions as Yay-Shoo(s) (http://www.bibles-on...ment/1-Matthew/ [DO NOT FORGET TO FLIP THE PAGE TWICE]). This is because the translators did not transliterate the true Hebrew Name, but instead transliterated most accurately the Greek’ poor transliteration of the Name. But not all early English versions used the Greek’ “s” on the end of the Name (see foot note to the left: http://www.bibles-on...ment/1-Matthew/ [DO NOT FORGET TO FLIP THE PAGE] from the 1537 Matthew’ Bible and also see Wycliffe’ version of Matthew 1:1). Anyway what I am getting at is the E-Sword Coverdale module uses a “s” in The Anointed One’ Name where Coverdale used the ∫, so if you just spell grasshopper you will be in keeping with it’ usual mis-spellings. Or if you prefer you could literally clean up this module and add the ∫ every where it truly belongs (especially in The Anointed One’ Name).

Pay close attention to the Capital I in both the Text as well as the footnotes of the Coverdale translation. Also note the ∫ withinin the Savior’ Name as well.
