I am new to e-Sword. Just downloaded it on my mac.   How do I use the Strongs reference if I don't know the reference number of the word I want to look up?

You need a bible module or modules that include Strongs numbers in the actual bible text. There are several such modules available here on biblesupport.com such KJV with strongs numbers.

There are also a couple of Strongs dictionary modules available as well

Strong numbers are Alphabetic: based on the Root. By Hebrew is that mostly 3 letters without the prefixes and/or suffixes.

The H numbers are in Hebrew and Aramaic Alphabet

The G numbers are in Greek Alphabet.

If you want an English word from the King James with the possible Hebrew or Greek words.

Use King James Concordance(KJC) and do a dictionary search

for example the word "tree" are there 9 definitions.

Because you have a Mac are the only modules who are compatible are the Ipad, iPod or iPhone versions for e-Sword HD or e-Sword LT.

Those Bible and dictionary modules are not bblx or dctx (for PC) but bbli or dcti (for Apple).
