Hi there I just want to ask something. In the KJV and KJV+ Heb 4:8  For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. That should not be Jesus but Joshua. Is it only mine that has this mistake? Can anyone else please check and respond.

Thanx

Ps Willlem van Zyl

Jesus and Joshua is the same name in Greek Ἰησοῦς G2424 and Latin Iesu / Iesus

see also in Act 7:45

The KJV is correct from this viewpoint while other Bible-translations are correct from harmonisation viewpoint in both Testaments

It is about Hoshea(Joshua) the son of Nun from the book with the same name the Old Testament. He was the successor of Moses.

Just to expand on this a tad, The way the "J" is pronounced (spoken) is language dependent (as well as some other letters in the Roman Alphabet). How we English speaking people use the letter "J" is totally foreign to those of non English speaking countries. and then of the non English speaking countries, the way the letter "J" is spoken also differs between them. And finally, in some other languages, there is no letter "J", and therefore the name/word "Jesus" would be totally different, e.g., Te Reo Maori, there is no letter "J" and Jesus is, "Ihu."

Yes. Paul and the writes of the New Testament saw that the entire Old Testament pictured and prophesied of Jesus through allegory and symbols (Gal. 4:24). Jesus also said this in a variety of ways such as saying He was the Door, or the Rock, or the Manna, etc. The Jewish leadership didn't want to believe for the most part. They were happy to just have correct doctrine and stick to their religion rather than come to Jesus for life (John 5:39-40). But Jesus came as the Substance of what the Old Testament pictured (Col. 2:17).

-

So for instance, you have correctly noted that Joshua and Hosea are the same name as Jesus. The book of Joshua could easily be called the book of Jesus as well as Hosea. The spiritual pictures hold - for both. The Holy Spirit can show them to you. I refer to these as "The Jesus Pictures": all and every Old Testament story shows some aspect of "Christ and Him crucified" (1 Cor. 2:2).

-

Example: I cite this in The Jesus Pictures - Daniel and the Lion's Den is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection. Once you accept that Gods foreordained history to paint pictures of Jesus' crucified Life offered to us in union with Him, then these come alive. In Daniel 6 the story deals with a "unchangeable law". That is like the law of sin and death - you sin, you die. There are some guys who want to get rid of a righteous man. So they set up circumstances so that they can get him entrapped. The successfully get him sentenced to death. Daniel goes into and hole in the earth that is covered over by a big rock that is sealed. Then while Daniel is in this "tomb", there is a lion prowling seeking to devour. But He can't devour this righteous one. Then next Daniel is raised up alive out through the same opening! The king is so impressed with what God has done, he then writes letters to tell all the nations about it.  I hope you recognize the death, burial, resurrection and great commission in the story.  All the O.T. stories are like this, but they only depict different aspects of the cross, specifically the "knowing of Christ and Him crucified".

-

The stories are not there just for curiosity, but to know Jesus in this way that He is portrayed.
