]Here my first impression of eSwordX

First it’s not free, this version cost $9.99 at the App Store. Not bad IMO.

Modules are the same extension of iOS devices (.bbli),  if your modules are PC versions (.bblx) they need to be converted first.
Importing the modules… lets say it could have been easier. You need to browse into the hidden Library directory, of course once you know how to get there its easy. A simple browse option would have been so much easier.
Purchased Modules are at the usual download area.

It behaves differently than the PC version, for example I liked the way I could hide all windows leaving open only the Bibles in Parallel mode, on e-SwordX this is not possible, all windows ‘resize’ but won’t hide. For me this is really a turn down because this is the method which I use the most. Hopefully it'll be added in future updates.

It does runs pretty smooth, fast, and stable. I just imported over a hundred modules and it handles them without a glitch. Thats good!

As a Graphic Designer I have to say the icon is so not up to Mac’s elegance, its very Windows98 I know this is just esthetic and does not affect in any way the apps performance but it looks so off in the Dock that I had to edit it myself :)

Here a few tips:

To convert the modules:
Download the converter (ironically this is PC only)

If you don’t have a PC:
Download Crossover and install it on your Mac.
https://www.codeweav.../crossover-mac/

Also download e-Sword (PC version) here and the Converter. here and install them.
If the link doesn’t work then the file might have been updated with a new name, if so go here: http://www.e-sword.net/extras.html and scroll to the bottom of the page and click the link to download the Converter Utility.

Crossover will work in Trial mode for a limited time, enough for you to convert the modules and import them to the eSwordX directory.

Once all  modules are converted:
On your desktop, Holding the option key, hit GO/Library and browse to this directory:

Library/Containers/Net.e-sword.e-Sword-X/Data/Library/Application Support/

Copy the converted modules there.

Its a good idea to create a shortcut of this folder: Select the Application Support Folder and do one of the following:
a. Right click over the folder and select Make Alias then drag that folder to your desktop or wherever you wish. OR
b. Drag the Application Support Folder to the Sidebar (I prefer this way).

If you wish to make a back up of all your modules this is the folder you must save.

Cheers,

Alexis

I am confused. Where do I find the converted modules? I get where they are to go, but I don't see the ones that are "converted." I have CrossOver and I've installed the converter, but don't see the files/modules.

Normally the converted files are at the same e-Sword Directory unless you are browsing from another folder it then will be at the same location of the module you selected.

By default Converter will "look" in the eSword directory, the converted files should be there.

On your desktop menu select Go to Folder and paste the following:

 ~/Library/Application Support/CrossOver/Bottles/e-Sword/drive_c/Program Files/e-Sword

This is the default directory of e-Sword on Mac by using Crossover, Not the new e-SwordX which is native.

Notice that my first post is about e-SwordX not e-Sword with Crossover.

Hope this help.

Well I see the files by going to the file location as suggested. But they don't show when using the converter. I guess I am doing something wrong or just clueless or both. When I run the converter.exe it gives me a command line and a browse button. When browsing, for the files in the same file location, the modules don't show up. There are files in there, but not the modules. This is why I can't stand technology.

When I run the command, it says that "There is no Windows program configured to open this file." I must be doing something wrong.

Not sure if I'm getting it right. You see which files, the converted (.bbli) or the original .bblx files? The .bbli won't show when browsing from the Convert Utility. If you can see these files you are good to go. Just copy them to the e-SwodX directory.

Lets go from the start:
Open Convert
Select Bible from the options
Hit Browse
You should see the Bible modules already installed on the eSword directory
Select one
Click Convert
When finished the converted .bbli file will be in this exact location.
Go there and copy the file
Paste it to the new location for e-SwordX
Restart eSwordX
Open it again, it should be there,

Alex

If I could figure out how to attach a screen shot, I would.

Are you opening the converter within CrossOver? If so, I see a convert.exe under the Bottles tab and it has a Run Command and then when I click on that it allows me choose which bottle, so I am keeping it convert.exe (I tried e-sword bottle as well). And then below that it has Browse tab...which of course opens up all my files to select from. Where it defaults to, they aren't there. But, I can find the .cmtx file (standard e-sword) but when it tries to convert it to the .cmti file for e-sword X, I get that error message.

To take the screen shot (from macrumors.com):

Shortcuts

  • Command-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it as a file on the desktop

  • Command-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it as a file on the desktop

  • Command-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it as a file on the desktop

  • Command-Control-Shift-3: Take a screenshot of the screen, and save it to the clipboard

  • Command-Control-Shift-4, then select an area: Take a screenshot of an area and save it to the clipboard

  • Command-Control-Shift-4, then space, then click a window: Take a screenshot of a window and save it to the clipboard

In Leopard and later, the following keys can be held down while selecting an area (via Command-Shift-4 or Command-Control-Shift-4):

  • Space, to lock the size of the selected region and instead move it when the mouse moves

  • Shift, to resize only one edge of the selected region

  • Option, to resize the selected region with its center as the anchor point

To attach the image:

At the bottom of the edit window where you are typing your post, select the [More Reply Options] button.

On the new screen select the [Choose Files...] button by the image of the paper-clip (lower left).

View the attached images to see what I mean.

Then just follow the prompts to navigate to the folder containing the image file you want to attach.

Thanks, I didn't check the More Options tab. Ought to be a tab on the editor.

1. Empty command line

2. Where it defaults to

3. The modules in the e-sword X folder

4. The folder with the modules I want to convert...the .cmtx ones

5. Command line with a .cmtx file module to be converted

6. First error box

7. Second error box

OK

When you're installing any module or app, don't open Crossover first to select the command line.

Click at the .exe FIRST and then Crossover will open.

Then select the third Row "Will install into a new Windows XP Bottle...

Select e-Sword

Click Install

Are we talking about trying to accomplish the same thing? I am trying to "convert" existing commentary (.cmtx) modules for the standard e-sword that I have using CrossOver to e-sword X (.cmti). What I see above is simply installing a module onto the standard e-sword with CrossOver. That I can do. The above procedure does not allow me to convert the module for e-sword X. Am I doing something wrong?
