Hi all. I'm new to e-Sword and I love the capabilities. So, to the creator, "Thank you!" Anyway, I'm doing a study on forgiveness/unforgiveness for a podcast/blog that I do. I started typing my notes in Study Notes. I noticed a button for scripture, clicked on it, and a blank sheet appeared. I cannot find my notes. Since I was in the midst of editing my broadcast I'm kind of frustrated about this. Is it possible for me to retrieve it? And before you ask, (shamefully) no, I didn't save my work; which is something I strive to do. I'm afraid that I'll have to redo everything again from scratch. (sigh)

Can anyone help me? In fact, is there any help for my dilemna? By the way, is there a spell check on this? I can't find it. Thanks in advance.

Hi Linda,

When you use the Study Note Editor, you need to ensure that the Sync button (the one that has a chain icon on the button) is pressed in. When you create a note in the Study Note editor, a wavy line will appear on the Scripture reference in the Bible Window. See screenshot below.

I trust this will help you.

Hi Linda,

You actually have three editors in e_Sword.

Journal Notes are stored by date.

Topic Notes by....well... the Topic you define. Hint: When you said that "I'm doing a study on forgiveness/unforgiveness" then that is the perfect use for the Topic Editor. I know myself, when first using e-Sword, I would type in notes, and then not be able to find them. That was because I had put them in Study Notes instead of using the Topics Editor.

The Study Notes are tied to a specific verse (kind of like building your own commentary).

As APsit190 pointed out, when you have entered a note for a specific scripture, that wavy line will appear under the reference in the Bible window (note this depends on how new a version of e-Sword you are using). That wavy line is suppose to be a hint that "Hey, I should go look at my study notes for this verse!"

Most likely what happened is that when you clicked on the scripture drop-down in the Study-Notes editor, you in-inadvertently changed to a different scripture reference. i.e. changed from John 3:16 to John 1:1 or some other reference.

My guess is that your notes are still there, you just have to fine the correct scripture.

I really do not know what scripture reference the study notes defaults to. If you have the link-following feature turned on (the icon of a piece of chain) then the editor follows whatever scripture you have clicked on in the bible window.

If it (the chain) is off, then is would be what-ever the last value was.

You can try going to some of the different verses you were reading at the time of your study to see if you can find your notes. (Try John 3:16, I seem to remember that being a first time default of some sort)

LORD, I pray that you help clear Linda's mind and help her find the notes she has already prepared. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen....

You'll find 'em!

Roy

They will usually be in "Documents/e-Sword" folder, as "study.notx"
