my apple would not let me download e sword or the exeges bible any ideas ???

We will need a little more info.
I will assume that you have e-Sword installed and running?
How? An Intel based Mac? ...Under WINE?
Downloads from within it e-Sword application it-self?
Downloads from one of the download pages here?
Does application/resource download but not install?
Just one file or any that you may have tried to download?

Did either of you get any error messages? What did they say?
