File Category: e-Sword Utilities

Author: Ben Krueger

BeST is
Ben's e-Sword Tool
Ben's e-Sword Tool was initially created in 2005 by Ben Krueger of Calgary, Alberta Canada with a two fold purpose. The first was to give himself some hands-on experience in developing a "real" .NET application. The second was to be able to import one or more bibles from one of the bible websites. There was an application called 'Bible Import Tool' (or BIT) that performed adequately, but lacked some formatting customizations and speed that Ben thought should be possible.

From that, additional features were added in no particular order: export to .xml, import from .txt/.xml, conversion of unicode characters to proper unicode RTF.
BeST version 2 (or BeST 2) began when Ben wanted to add additional features to his application but discovered the process of evolving an interface was not effective. So the entire interface of the application was re-designed and the base coding was completely re-designed to include just about every option and feature that might be desired in the application (that is why many options are greyed out even in the Premium version).

The Premium version has all the features of the Standard version as well as creating and exporting Pocket e-Sword modules.

Creates e-Sword Modules from files (Premium version also creates Pocket e-Sword modules)

  • Bible from
    • locally stored BibleGateway and Crosswalk html pages, (due to web site changes, these may not work anymore)
    • Text Files (in various formats),
    • Comma and Tab Separated files,
    • XML files (OSIS, Zefania, and BeST .XML formats),
    • Microsoft Excel files, and
    • OpenOffice Spreadsheet files.
  • Commentary from

  • Dictionary,

Exports the following e-Sword modules:

Automatically converts unicode text (including Chinese/Japanese) to display in the proper font within e-Sword.

For some reason I can't get this to convert modules to the Pocket Esword format. I'm running it on Windows Vista. Does anyone have experience working with creating Pocket Esword resources?
