A new computer isn't an option.

When I start E-sword I get the following message.
Error opening "Bible/commentary/dictionary"
After I close each of these, I get this message
"Automation error 2147024770. The specified module could not be found"
I know it's a new century, but a new computer isn't in my budget and I'm just trying to get back to the Bible study level I had before I lost everything in a lay off in 09.

Thanks for any help.
In His service,
Duke

Hi Duke,

My suggestions is to un install e-Sword and re install it. or open up e-Sword click on helps -> Reset e-Sword settings.  It sounds if the resource location is looking for it in a different location.

if this does not work, someone on this site will help you find the solution.

thanks

Thanks
I will try looking at the helps thing.I believe it's looking in the wrong location, the step reader works fine but the books in the Bible pane are from a different program, since uninstalled.

It worked fine after the initial install, but the next time I tried to use it, and everytime since, it's been like this.
Uninstalling & reinstalling does no good, already tried it several times.

Oh the joys of gifted computers lol

Resetting it didn't help.

Perhaps my E sword days are over.

Duke,

Have you tried doing a Google search on the error message?

I just did and found a "whole bunch" of hits on the search.

They mostly seem to point to either needing an update on the OS from Micro-Soft -or- there are missing / mis-placed config files. I know this may not apply to e-sword but I would try looking here before giving u p (it's worth a shot!)

This specific one may help as it applies to apps developed in VB.

Good luck & God bless.

Roy,
Thank you.
Yes I've searched for it and you're correct there are a TON of results.
I've tried the MDAC update and it did no good. Don't recall the exact reason but it didn't do anything for some reason.

Roy,
I have tried the MDAC update but it wouldn't run it for some reason I can't recall. Finally gou an sd card and
I tried to download the latest ES but I keep getting a forbidden message. They must block downloads to phones.

This is becoming more trouble than it's worth.

PRAISE THE FATHER!
PRAISE THE SON!
PRAISE THE SPIRIT, 3 IN 1!

Yesterday I began preparing to convert my database, all 4 gigs, to text files. I downloaded the following programs:
Best2
module utility
Step2rtf
MED
After I installed these E-Sword began working again.

I am unsure which one it was but I have a feeling it was a corrupted dll file. I have another program which uses ms?vrc?80.dll and had previously downloaded it in order to use that program.
I'm NOT sure this was the problem but I do remember seeing it being installed during one of these program's installation.

Again, THANK YOU to all who offered advice and support.
