Unfortunately, the NIV is still under copy right, so the only legal source for an NIV module is estudy source, and they only distribute materiel that is compatible with the current version of e-sword.
There are, of course, bootleg copies out there, some of them are likely good copies.
Rather than stir the still glowing embers of the "God's word should be free" verses the "A Christian should respect the property both physical and intellectual of others" war, I will say no more.

Upgrade to e-sword 10 then you can purchase the NIV at only $25.

only $25?
Ah, excuse me, but the fully legal Kindle version of NIV seems to be available on Amazon for $3.25.
And a number of paperback editions are also affordable, not much more than Kindle. So can someone help me (and others) understand the seemingly high cost of electronic products for esword?
Thanks,
Steve

e-Sword does not set the prices for premium modules. eStudySource.com does since they have permission and licence from the copyright holder ( International Bible Society) to distribute it in that format.

Hi Steve,
When you buy the NIV, you don't just get the NIV, you also get the NIrV (New International readers Version) with it. Before you use to be able get the TNIV in the bundle, but this translation has been discontinued by the looks of it. So, considering that you get both the NIV and the NIrV in one hit, then the price you pay isn't really all that expensive.
Moreover, the reason for these "lower" prices is because of Amazon being an extremely large company that has the capacity to mark their prices down to the bare bone.
And a number of paperback editions are also affordable, not much more than Kindle.
As true as this may be, it is only to a certain extent. What you seem to be leaving out and failing to mention that these are very cheap editions. If you want to buy leather a bound Study Bible, i.e., NIV Life Application Study Bible, or something similar, then you would be paying for something that is in well in excess of a mere $25 for only one copy.
I don't have a huge income by any stretch of the imagination, however, US$25 (approx NZ$31) isn't a really bad deal for two Bibles.
Blessings,

The NIrV is frequently used as a childrens translation, as it is about a third grade read.
I bought my copy of the NIV set when it was the NIV, NIrV and TNIV (Today's NIV), as APsit190 pointed out the TNIV seems to have disappeared

There seems to be a very limited number of Bibles available on e-Sword - even at Premium pricing. I love the software but find myself constantly going back and forth with Olive Tree to get the versions I'm most interested in using. Currently, I'm interested in the NIV Word Study Bible. I can get it on Olive Tree but would prefer having it available in e-Sword. I'm curious as to the process for any particular Bible being added to the e-Sword options. Is there much development time involved? Is it possible to request Bibles (like NIV Word Study Bible) and would such a request do any good?
I do understand that there is likely development required to break out individual verses the way e-Sword does, but I find that often I wish it wasn't broken out by verse but was rather in paragraph format. I can imagine an interim option on e-Sword where the version is presented in paragraph format (to offer the version faster) and then later offered in broken down by verse format (after the appropriate and necessary development time). I assume the development time would be less or non-existent for the version's original paragraph format.
In fact, I'd love to have the option on all versions of seeing it in paragraph or verse format. (HINT)
