Actually, I should have also mentioned Piriform's CCleaner when recommending Malwarebytes. Here is a safe site for downloading it.  http://www.filehippo...nload_ccleaner/   Just be sure to download the [free] version of both... unless you're like the motorcyclist and overloaded with money, that is. :-)  At the first hint of PC slowdown, I always run both of these. Don't start the second until the first has finished.

Hi all just downloaded to try out the New upgrade to the program and as a long time user (from way..way back..) I unistalled the 9.0 and still use 8 because of the speed issue.  Am I doing somthing wrong?  I do not think I should have to unload everything just to get it to run. Even going from book to book in a biblical text takes a long time in 9.0 and up.  On the 8 it switches much fater.  Just looking for some tips so I can use some of the new features without "deslecting" everything just to get it to run. Looks as if this stie has taken off also!  Well done all!

Wayne man,

1) Old computer?

2) What operating system?

3) Gigs of ram?

How many commentaries, Bibles, and dictionaries do you think you have installed (just a ballpark)?

Hi

my suggestion is that you copy your main location C: program files - e-Sword folder to my documents.
Then un install (remove) e-sword. Check ur main e-Sword folder from the C: Program files has been deleted, if not delete it manually.

Install e-Sword 10.21 , once it is installed, run the program.
If it works, move the other modules from your old e-Sword folder.

Thanks

If you have NET Bible and Commentary; deactivate them and test. If no improvement un-synchronize the commentary and dictionary views, and test. There could be one offending module that needs fixing.

Greetings,

Jon You had the correct answer.  I unlinked the Dictionary of the NET bible and also the commenary and things clicked through real smooth.  It was rather frustrating because I love e-sword back when we used Access database.  When everything went to SQL I had a hard time geting everything to run.  So I want back to 8.0 as mentioned above.  Thanks for the help.  I did give myself a face palm for not thinking of it myself.

Thanks for your responces.

You are all most kind and thoughtful!

I remember now a problem with some of the NET Bible resources. I helped Bible.org correct issues with these resources two years ago. If you have a newer version of the NET resources, then this would not apply. Otherwise, you may download the updated resources.

One problem was lag when using the resources.

My crying and complaints are matched with earlier postings.  These last post having to do with loading or not loading NET was not a solution for me, as I do not run NET versions.

I have this same problem the earlier postings talk about -- slow and freeze ups which for some is not so big a deal but for me it is annoying.  The creative juices get to flowing and I suddenly find myself bring esword up for a verse check or to add something to my Topic or to check a commentary and everything slows down, esword, running in the back ground comes to the front and grays out while it is coming to life -- I wait and wait -- the creative juices poor out into thin air -- finally esword rises from the dead and I am back in business again, until I begin moving from one pane to the next.  It has, on a couple of occasions, remained in the grave, and if you notice, when it goes into this dead zone the mouse no longer works and your pc is pretty much held hostage.  I had to remove the batter on my laptop to force a reboot to get the pc back.  If I could I would move to The Word, but I have so much info invested in these many years with esword, my Topic list and comments and Journal are huge, and necessary for my studies in cross checking, etc.  When was Visual Basic written, anyway?  I am using version 10, and if I can figure a way to migrate my personal files and into to The Word I would.  I have the paid version of Malwarebytes too, but it did nothing to speed up esword, and why would it?  It removes malware, it might speed up a slow pc but a slow esword?  If it did that wouldn't that mean that Malwarebytes is fining malware embedded in esword?

No, I think the answer is a complete rebuild.

Apparently there is not answer for this problem.  In looking back it seems this has been going on for years with no solutions?  I have had esword on various computers over the years and do not remember the first version having this problem.  It all seem to start with the versions that wanted to connect to the internet, whether you wanted that or not.  I guess they all do that now -- ?  I see most of these posts date back to 2013, and I know that I had written about this before that?  I wonder if something happened in 2014 that I missed as I do not see any complaints, other than mine, concerning this subject dated 2014 or 15?  Just wondering.  If anyone knows of a way to migrate Topics modules from esword to The Word please let me know.  Dan
