Just downloaded the "Peshitta Transliterated - The Syriac New Testament and Lexicon"  but all it displays are "random" characters.

 

For example - Joh 4:31 WBYNT HLYN B(YN HWW MNH TLMYDWHY W)MRYN LH RBN L(S
 

Anybody have an idea how to fix this?

It is "transliterated" not translated. The Syriac characters are replaced by English letters: the ( is the letter  Ayin

I transliterate this letter rather as "O" while it is not a vowel but the next letter is a P
