I have for a couple of years now, tried unsucesfully to open up a zip file.

Why are so many of the E-Sword files in zip format?

I have7-zip and I have have followed all the tutorials, but I just can't seem to get it.

I have the module installer, I let 7-zip handle the files and send them to E-Sword.. No luck.

Why can't all files be in exe. or whatever???

What advantage is a zip file anyway?

Certainly not to old men like me.

Please I Need Help. Even now I notice that Chas. Spurgeon's commentary on Psalms(Treasury of David) is in zip.

Thankfully I downloaded them in exe. and have used them for several years.

Also Harry Ironside.

I'm an old preacher who has taken to computers for help..I sure need it.

THANKS,

hank

Hello,

If you open a zip file, what do you see? You "send them to e-Sword"? What do you mean? A clear description of the problem or error and exactly what you're seeing would be helpful—otherwise it's difficult to diagnose.

Unless you are technically savvy, I would just use the zip functionality built into Windows. That would probably make it easier than dealing with third party programs like 7zip.

May God change our hearts to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Why .zip files? Let me give you two reasons why I use .zip files on my module website.

First, zipping a file makes it much smaller. Sometimes as much as 75% smaller. Smaller files take up less space (and therefore cost less to store), and are also faster to download (and therefore makes for happier website users).

Second, I use .zip files instead of .exe files due to virus software. Some users have virus software detection set so high that they automatically reject .exe downloading. It makes difficult for me, as a site builder & module developer, to try to help people with download issues that are directly related to their firewalls and virus software.

These are the main two reasons I use .zip files for archiving modules I build at my module website (and the ones I post here at biblesupport.com).
