I'm thinking the combo box appears only for Topics?
if you have more than one file in that location the box will appear

for all 3 formats topics, journal and Study

May God change our hearts to what the truth is
2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

You probably are right. I was "sure" that was not my observation before. But right now, I'm too tired to think straight. I hope I have not confused the issue. I'm be quiet now... (sleep)

The other option is to reassign the location of resources.
1) Click Options+Resources
2) Click the folder button in the lower right of the "Resource Options" dialog box. It will be just above the right side of the Cancel button.
3) Select the folder you want to use for your resource location, such as dropbox.
4) Click OK - to select the folder
5) Click OK - to acknowledge that a restart of e-Sword is necessary
6) Click OK - to close the Resource Options dialog box
7) Close and Restart e-Sword.
This option does work for Study, Journal, and Topic Notes - Just go to the current location where they are stored now. Copy them to your Dropbox (I used Google Drive) and copy the files to that location. Follow the steps above. Once you click on a new resource's location for any of the tabs, It will be applicable for all of the tab. Click ok and restart E-Sword. To ensure that it works, Ctrl+Right Click on the Study, Journal, or Topic window, and the new location should appear.

Thank you very much for this information! I love this e-Sword program. But have had a time keeping my notes around. Changing the directory made it easy to put into my auto-backup folder for Google Drive.

Information received from Rick Meyers, the designer of e-Sword, as at Wed 2023-06-14..
You can host your files wherever you like, even the cloud. Just copy the files to the new location, then update the "User Files Location" path to the directory that contains all of your user files.
A printer driver is needed for the editor control we use. A physical printer is not needed, but you should at least have an "Adobe PDF" printer set up.
In His service,
Rick Meyers
