The New American Bible Revised Edition is a new Catholic Bible.  I would like to have this as a module for E-Sword if possible.  Does anyone know if it is available for download anywhere?  I'd be willing to purchase it if I have to.

Thanks.  Is it possible that this could be made into a module for E-Sword?

If it is to be made into an e-Sword module, it would most likely be a premium ($$$$) module.  If YOU could run down the appropriate permissions from the publisher, perhaps a module builder could be found who would take on the module building.

If [someone] could make a script (or executable program for windows peeps) to take the html pages and stuff them into a comma-delimited format ready to convert into an sqlite DB file (aka, an esword module with its particular formating)  then technically anyone could transpose the web copy for themselves ("personal use"). Then, distributing the script would presumably be acceptable?

The NAB is available freely from the vatican's website, after all. That, to me, implies freely usable (just not for publishing & selling presumably.) One can download the entire subdir's content for offline reading, and then manipulate the text in any way to make it more accessible for ones own use.

It's a project I'm considering, if no one else more knowledgeable will step up and do the deed. I have a good bit of experience (Linux System Administrator by trade) with scripting, but my sql skills are very rusty, and my knowledge of eSword at this time is no more than a mustard seed, so to speak :)

hi

here is the link:

http://www.vatican.v...0839/_INDEX.HTM

If this is public Domain it can be made into a module.

(this is just my observation: Gen 1:2 - The Mighty Wind -> who is to be The Holy Spirit.  I am like wow), but there is a lot of different translations of the Bible that denies the Tri -Un (trinity) of God (Elohym)

but any way this can be made into a module as long as it is public domain.

hi again here is what I did

Attached File  THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE Catholic.rtf   8.07K   37 downloads

at the end of it is a commentary for the bible (Gen 1)

thanks

How can this material be in the public domain, when the website and even the RTF file posted above, contains a copyright statement?

You would need the Vatican's permission to reproduce the text.

(NAB) New American Bible

(NABRE) New American Bible Revised Edition of 2011

The NABRE is different of the NAB, even in the first verses.

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters. Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. (NAB)

In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth and the earth was without form or shape, with darkness over the abyss and a mighty wind sweeping over the waters--Then God said: Let there be light, and there was light. (NABRE)

Both are one of the few English Bibles that supports the Abyss rendering as in the Restored Holy Bible but I use "the Spirit of GOD" instead of "a mighty wind".

I have sent a formal request to the nccbuscc's bible office asking about their copyright policy into making transcriptions into other electronic formats. I'll post whatever reply I receive.

In the mean time, I see no reason we cannot create our own module on our own systems from the attached rtf, strictly for personal use.

Ohh.. This might help (silly tabs hiding the info :)

http://www.nccbuscc....le/permissions/

It would seem to give permission for "one time use" (eg, personal use.)

It doesn't really answer the question whether transcriptions into other formats is permissible. So, we'll have to wait for an answer to my email.

BTW, the NAB per se is not the liturgical bible, according to http://www.ewtn.com/...le_versions.htm

There is only one English text currently approved by the Church for use in the United States. This text is the one contained in the Lectionaries approved for Sundays & Feasts and for Weekdays by the USCCB and recognized by the Holy See. These Lectionaries have their American and Roman approval documents in the front. The text is that of the New American Bible with revised Psalms and New Testament (1988, 1991), with some changes mandated by the Holy See where the NAB text used so-called vertical inclusive language (e.g. avoiding male pronouns for God).
